Gary do you know where (What area of the Dam) and what / how did they catch this monster? I went there today after I saw this but I only have a crab net and I was told there not allowed there from a guy fishing,

How big?

Gary, you need to pick the meat and then have it stuffed and framed!! I have been around for a long time and my family and friends have never caught anything close to this and this is what they do for a living. What did you catch it with a net or chicken neck in a string, or in a crab pot?

Sorry no way!! If that is true, the biggest blue crab was caught in the bay and it was 11 inches wide 1.1 pounds, so how in the world do you say this crab ways 35 lbs., if this was real, then you need to be in the Wold Book of records and since I have friends that work for them, I am going to give them your facebook page to contact you, so you can record it!

Hey Gary, ponte vedra beach and St Augustine is in FL, so were you in FL crabbing? But the post has Emerald Isle which we all know is in NC, right?

Okay here are the Dams and reservoirs in Florida, were Gary said this was caught, I don't see that Dam is not on this list, so please explain Gary why would you say you caught a 35 pound blue crab, when you are out of Emerald Isle, that was supposedly caught in FL where you say the dam is? But here is the thing, I have friends that research dams and if they travel to FL I will try to see if they can swing by Guano Dam to see if there is even a dam in FL called Guana!!! Franklin Lock and Dam This list is incomplete. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it. multiple dikes, C. W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir, Tampa Bay Water Franklin Lock and Dam, on the Caloosahatchee River, United States Army Corps of Engineers Herbert Hoover Dike, Lake Okeechobee, USACE Inglis Spillway and Dam, Lake Rousseau, Florida Department of Environmental Protection Jackson Bluff Dam, Lake Talquin, City of Tallahassee, Florida Jim Woodruff Dam, Lake Seminole, USACE Lake Manatee Dam, Lake Manatee, Manatee County Utilities Munson Recreation State Dam, Lake Munson, State of Florida Moss Bluff Lock and Spillway, on the Oklawaha River, St. Johns River Water Management District Port Mayaca Lock and Dam, on the Okeechobee Waterway, USACE Rodman Dam, Rodman Reservoir, Florida Department of Environmental Protection

I think 35 pound was just a joke, posted by goperch ;-) Otherwise that would have been a world record indeed. Let's see if justgary will share some more infos on the location :-)

Apparently there is a dam in FL between St Augustine and Ponte Verda...It is called Guana River Dam. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guana_River_State_Park

Steve, We are all friends around here !! Gary has only made one comment...Where he caught it....Are you saying the location is BS ? You sound like Edna...I have a friend that knows...I have a friend that does...I have a friend that works...I have a friend...Yeah, we get it, Edna, you know better because you have a friend !! Yes, Steve, we get it, you grew up there...So what exactly is it that you are saying is BS ?? Gary is a great bloke (you being a yank will have to Google that). He has gone to the trouble of showing us his catch. It is a bloody good catch. Gary is quite proud of his catch and so he should be. I would also be very proud of myself if I caught a crab like that...In fact I have caught a crab about that size and I was over the moon with it. I am also proud to be a fisherman and part of the fishing community. Gary also is clearly proud to be part of the fishing community or he would not have posted his picture. I am not Admin, Mark is. However, I have been a member here for quite a few years now. In all those years I have never seen any hostility like what you and Edna have shown. As a fellow member, I say, pull your head in. I will stand along side Gary any day...and I have never met the man....I would not stand along side you - if you have nothing good to say, then say nothing !!!

I grew up in New Jersey and never caught a stripper larger then 40lbs. I have also fished off the same Rock pile in New Jersey that the previous 78lb world record stripper was caught. I never caught anything even close to that size.... But, guess what Edna and Steve. A 78lb stripper was caught off of that Rock pile, anything is possible. Even if the crab shows some enlargement by putting it away from his body, it's still a fantastic crab.

Thanks Craig Reynolds, I am with you...I am not sure why this particular picture has caused hostile responses. Maybe Edna and Steve are one in the same. Maybe they know Gary...I don't know and I don't care... Gary looks like a top bloke to me and he has gone out of his way to share his catch with us. I notice that neither Steve nor Edna have posted photo's of their catches complete with their mug shot (face) !!!!!! So we agree, this is a place of friends. No need or want for any hostile activities...We are fishermen from all over the world and that is what we do. And that is why we are here ! Now, back to friendly banter,,,Craig, if you look again, you might notice that Gary has his thumbs firmly wedged against the breast pockets of his shirt. Gary is holding that crab close to his body.

78 lb Stripper? She Sounds Anorexic to me.. I like Strippers with some meat on their bones.

FYI. The world Record for a blue Crab in the US is just shy of 11". Caught in VA. It weighed 1.1 lbs. If the below Crab were real it would dwarf the world record. It might also be mentioned in more than one place on the entire internet.. No Hostility, just facts.

Facts ?? Gary has not told us what the size was.

Now that is one big ass blue crab!!! Bet he goes in a pot of Gumbo for sure!!

It is a big crab... But I think the photographic distortion is making it look even bigger. Someone suggested he 14" point-to-point. I doubt it. I think that's just the visual distortion. He might be 9-10" though. He's definitely the biggest blue crab I've ever seen.

These crabs are very adaptable to various areas of the Atlantic Ocean and inlets throughout. In the open waters they are known as Atlantic Blue Crab. They are all the same family of crab and as enjoyable anywhere. One of my favorites to eat is Italian Blue crab spaghetti in red tomato sauce. Once you put it in your mouth, your hocked on it forever...Beware :)

Are there many big ones in that area? What happened to the big guy? How did he taste?

Just Gary- Did you get a tip to tip measurement for this crab?
7 years ago by Walker5948
Just caught a big one measures 9" tip to tip but this one looks larger. I called Fwc and they say there is not a blue crab catagory for state records in Florida, there should be in my opinion!
