- Thanks for the comment. I agree, that a plastic, or real crawfish rigged weedless, dragged slowly through the bed can be a great way to get the attention of the tending mama bass. She will surely pick up the bait with intentions to relocate. Setting the hook is all "angler" skill here for sure. ROLL TIDE!
- RE bamasnap, countryboy91 - the spawn can be a great time to tie into some really good sized bass! Crawfish are natural predators of bass roe. Use a salty craw or other soft plastic crawfish rigged weedless and slowly walk it across the bottom, pausing often. When it gets close to a bed or even on a bed, the bass will pick it up and relocate it away from their fry! Set the hook and have a blast. I do recommend CPR (catch, photo, release) at this time of the year to make sure a real crawfish doesn't clean out an unprotected bed!
- The bass are more than likely on the bed. The large bass are females, and they won't bite anything while they are tending the bed, and hatching minnows.

- Most accurate and reliable site to date. I've tried about 4 to 5 good ones now and this has been the most accurate, times vary 30 minutes to an hour depending on your exact location but major and minor bite times have been accurate 90% of the time! Job well done...

- I would try a river2sea whopper plopper 130 size in any color that matches the baitfish in the pond as closely as possible because it is made for bass hope this helps.

Atif - I had fished for many years and the best thing i found that works well on large mouths that just are stubborn is a live chub about 4 inches long if that doesn't work then you might want to to try a black spinner bait i prefer the one made by blue fox spinners. i hope this helps you

- My friends and I like to go fishing along the kaalstrand between Langebaan and the iron ore harbour. Last week we caught cob, blacktail and stompnose. We caught 7 cob between 3 -5 kg and the blacktail ; 0.75kg.
This fishing spot is in South Africa , Western Cape, along the West Coast.

- On Nov.13, 2011 I went catfishing . The wind was blowing about 20miles per.hr out of the south,but I try it anyway. i couth a 11lb right off the bat,great. that 15min. later I hooked what turn out to be a 60 1/4lbs. bluecat. Just goes to show bad conditions dose't me bad fishing.

- you can not use panty hose in most states to bait your hooks best thing is thread wrap a couple of times and it stays on the hook hose comes off and can get caught in the gills of catfish so imagin killing a 100 pounder just cause you couldnt get him in

Would like to no of anybody has had in luck recently in the Whangarei area if so where?? - just went fishing at Lake James near Marion,NC and was on the Burke County side and saw a bigcarp roll over in the water it was awesome to see. Only caught 4 fish tonight I enjoy fillettte the blue gills and I can without bones.
- latley my lakes havent had much rain so they have dropped about two feet one lake is 15 acers and the other is 7 and with the hot temperatures the water has warmed up and the bass just havent been biting latley .....anyone know what would be a good bait under these conditions
- My best fishing lately has been the two hours before low tide and two hours before high tide. If these co-incide with the major times on this site then your chances of a good catch increase exponentially. Good luck and enjoy.

- Hi,a quick report on the fishing in Mercury Bay, N.Z. I surfcast the local beaches regularly and have had one of the best fishing winters ever! A 9.5 pound snapper was my best but got quite a few in the 5-7 pound range. As well as snapper the Kahawai season has been exceptional with good catches right through. So don't listen to the nay sayers, get out there and get your lines tight. Cheers
- Sure Pauly, the difference is: If you don't catch any fish in the "minor" times, you can blame the time of day, but during "major" times, you must find another excuse. ;-)

- panty hose works great keeping chicken liver on my treble hook! thinner the better.
- I use women's panty hose to keep my chicken livers on the hook. Just make sure you don't use the cheap ones(too thick). Tie a knot in one end, put in liver and tie it onto a treble hook. Works great and you can cast em a mile.

But seriously its a bit difficult to give a general rating of the ratings. They are surely not meant to be a 100% guarantee that fish will or wont bite. Just recommendations based on the moon phase and past experiences. - markt, you missed the point. The question was how accurate are the website ratings. If the website rating (0 to 3 stars) is accurate, the you were requested to rate the website 10. If you think these ratings are not realistic or inaccurate, then you were suppose to rate it 1, 2 or so.
- the ratings work quite well for me. They are inspired by the maori fishing calendars and solunar tables.
I don't see any advantage for ratings from 1-10. On fishingreminder the days are rated:
0 stars = bad
1 star = fair
2 stars = good
3 stars = excellent
I thinks thats all what really counts ;-) - Are the day ratings accurate at all? Please explain and rate 1-10 (10=Accurate)

Are the best days to schedule within three days after the new and full moons. Or are there another way to calculate the better days?

ive beeen geting a few good kingies from the kayak over here - Too much line on your baitcaster does make it more difficult to control the spool. I find it much more controlable to only spool up to about 1/8" from the edge of the spool. That way you can use your thumb against the spool edge and not the line. Experiment with the spool tension and magnetic spool control if they are available on your reel. Hope this helps.
- Im new to this site. I have been surfing around and this is really cool. I have a bait caster, and I have been having trouble with the ole bird nest. I keep my thumb on the line, but I had a friend tell me I may have too much line on my reel. Does this sound right to anyone?

We moved the point to a river nearby the wellington point, there were fishes jumping and playing with my baits which were frozen prawans intelligently.

The Fishing Calendars are for use in a calendar application like Outlook or Google Calendar. After you create a calendar you can use the link that is created to subscribe or import this calendar into Outlook for example.
Then you will see all the fishing times as appointments in your calendar.
If you want different locations for the forecast list, you just need to select other locations on the My Locations Panel. Each new location is automatically added to the top of your location list.

Meril - Thanks, definitely a grunter. Caught 5 on Sunday, and the last one "grunted". These were all smaller than my first one, so were released. Also caught a sea bream on the same day, also using prawn bait.

If not and you check the teeth which is molar like its definitely a sea bream-which is abundant here in AUH.Usually roming around sand flats. I caught two species of bream one time, when I cleaned them I saw crushed shell in their gut,thats why the molar like teeth...keep fishing to all!!! - 2:00 PM Est 4# Smallie. 60 acre pond, on crayfish. we call that fish bakoko (in our own language) seems they are yelling (kokokoko) even under the sea. we used to fish there in mussafah,(after emirates float glass) but every time the securities are coming to tell us it's not allowed anymore. you're lucky hehe, a lot of bakoko there and queenfish.you can catch that fish also at khalifa park,opposite ADNEC.try to go to mina port to catch big ones.

buy sabiki,(fishing shops) 6 or 8 hooks in 1 line.just cast and retrieve, it should be moving so salay salay and queenfish will get attracted of the shiny color,it bites as a group.tawilis is for cobia,hamour,and talakitok just leave it under the sea (stationary). - I caught this fish in Musaffah, Abu Dhabi, using a prawn bait.

the weather is windy,need to prepare lines for queenfish and salay-salay.they are everywhere and they bite as a group. need some fur of chicken white color (you can buy it from stationery shops) attached to the hooks to attract queenfish and salay salay,no need for bait.

- I tend to disagree with the tide table for the Columbia River, Vancouver, Wa. As you switch between the two columbia river vancouver you notice quite a difference between the time of the tide they are no that far apart, also the steamboat slough is just up the river, east of the columbia river, vanc there is still a significant change and it is only five miles different. WHY?

The tides might differ by a couple of minutes for some stations cause the calculation is based on estimation. The official weather sites will have the most accurate data. But for fishing purposes the estimated tide times should be good enough.
The best fishing times will change the further east or west you go. Most accurate fishing times will be displayed when you select your exact location on the map (My Location Tab).

- Went out yesterday for a surf caste off the beach had a great day we were hauling in really good sized Kahawai from from 1pm when we arrived till we left at 4pm. The kids had a great time picking up Mackerel that the bigger fish we chasing in to shore. Great day had by all, off again this afternoon.

At the moment we got some good day ratings because of new moon conditions. That means that fishing is normally better then usual - if fish are present. But if you can't catch many fish maybe there are just no fish swimming around at your spot at the moment. Perhaps you could try to use some berly to attract them from further away, if they are scattered around. There might be other factors such as seasonal changes or water temperature driving fish into other regions. - Hello sir i just wana ask you that your reminder shown me excellent day but i fail to catch even a single fish since two days in dubai {U.A.E},

Thanks for your comment. I'm afraid there is not much I can do about the accuracy of the weather forecast. I don't produce the weather forecast, it comes from weatherbug. I've found it quite accurate for most places in the world. But for some locations it might not always produce the best results. The only thing I could think of, is to provide the option to choose from alternative weather providers in the future, such as yahoo weather for example.

Thanks for you comment. You don't have to worry about daylight savings time. All fishing times and tide times at fishing reminder account for daylight savings.

This is a great site, I don't know what you use to get the ratings and major times but when I first saw it I doubted it because it predicted the major time to be at the middle of the day during dead low tide period however when fishing, the fish really started to pick up at that time! Amazing.
Just a question, I live in Adelaide, South Australia. Just wondering we have just entered daylight savings period, does the major and minor time predictions take that into account? Or do I have to add an extra hour onto it such as reading a tide guide?

Andrew - Using your feeding times my wife and I fished Mon. night 9-21 and got a limit of walleye with the largest 24 1/4 inches and three small mouth 20 1/2 19 1/4 and 18 inches went 24lb 15 oz. Great bass fishing.

The Major and Minor Times tell you at what time of the day you can find the best action for that particular day.
But if other factors such as weather, water temperature, water visibility, etc are not favorable, then this will most likely offset the effects of the Solunar Periods. When the water is too cold or too warm fish tend to be lethargic and inactive even during the predicted feeding periods.
So in short the best fishing times will give you a good indication of when its a good time to be on the water, but you will also need to consider all other factors - especially weather conditions before making your decision of when to go fishing. - I used your web site and went fishing yesterday. I normally like to be there when the sun comes up, but yesterday waited until almost 10:00 AM before getting to the lake because your site said the best bite would be between 12:30 and 2:30 PM. It worked out very close. I started catching crappie about 10:30 and they shut off at 1:30. Thanks for saving me some time to sleep in.

According to the Solunar Theory (by John Alden Knight), the major and minor times will apply to any fish. In fact they will even work for any other animals. Many people use Solunar Tables for bird watching and hunting. Animals tend to be more active during these times because their feeding schedule is closely related to the moon cycle - which in return is the basis for the calculation of the best feeding times. - just wondering....? are these times for any type of fish? im just wondering for bass fishing.. well steelhead and salmon too. thank you.

update: fixed the issue, day has 3 star rating now as expected. - strange that you have fri august the 21st as a poor day for main beach the Gold coast, Australia. It is the day after the new moon and the maori calender says its a great day and the best times also coincide with dawn/dusk so whats the problem that your algorithm has with that day ?

thanks for your feedback. I think there are a few different versions of the maroi fishing calendar out there. I've been using the day ratings from an old fishing book that was written by Bill Hohepa. Thats probably why there are slight differences to the calendar you mentioned. I have written the algorithms that calculate the best fishing times myself. - Great site Mark, thanks and well done...I look forward to trying it out and will be sure to post the outcome after trying it out for while.
I was comparing your daily ratings with the "Rothery's maori fishing calandar" published in a local fishing mag here and the correlation was very close except for the odd few days which contradicted...e.g. New Moon is good on here but only fair on rothery's... sany thoughts as to why this may be? (In no way a critisism, just trying to understand it all).
Did you write the algorithim's yourself?

Bredug - Good question. I guess I didn't add it cause there aren't any catfish around here in NZ where I go fishing ;-) Will add it to the options.
- On the polls why does it not include Catfish? They would have to be one of the most fished in my area.

The difference between the 30 day fishing forecast and the moon calendar is that the moon calendar shows you what day rating fishing reminder assigns to each day of the moon phase starting with day 1 = new moon. Currently it is using the maori fishing calendar.
On the 30 day forecast those day ratings are matched to the actual days of the current month.
In other words the moon calendar tab serves only as a reference, while the fishing forecast gives you the concrete predictions per date.

Great work keep it up - went fishing @ ballina yesterday, fishing has been terrible for months...
i was keen to try out this site's prediction for a decent session, so headed down for a hour fish before work.
I landed 5 bream and 1 flathead all on sp's :)

- Hi, I am very happy with my results from using fishing reminder. When by the ratings of when it was a good time to go fishing and I got lots of good catfish. I am very glad that I found this site. It is nicely setup and works great. Glad you are almost done with getting a version setup for blackberry. Can't wait to try out the blackberry version. I have been telling everyone to try this site out.
- I was planning to extend fishingreminder to work on mobile phones. An initial step will be to to view fishingreminder in your blackberry's web browser.

If I could make one suggestion it would be the option to only have reminders sent if the best fishing days fall on certain days (such as weekends)

Keep the site going - It seems that the actual time of New Moon (0%) is at 2:35 pm on Wed, 22 July ( for Auckland ).
Fishing Reminder calculates the Moon Phase for each day at midnight, to keep the predictions consistent throughout the day.
That means at 00:00, Wed 22 July the moon illumination is still at 1%.
Therefore the 0% illumination is shown for Thursday instead of Wednesday.
I don't think this is a problem, because all days around new moon have
a similar high day rating - so it won't alter the prediction for best days to go fishing.
But thanks for bringing this to my attention. I will investigate a bit further into this issue.
PS: I'm glad you had such great fishing results - thanks for sharing. - Hi, I am very happy with my results from using fishing reminder, My choice to use three star days started with a 7 pound rainbow, and an 8 pounder on Lake Tarawera New Zealand not long after on a two star day. It has broken my drought to calculate the best days to go fishing with excellent results. They are my best fish in years!! caught within two months! But please I am confused. Metservice New Zealand shows the New Moon to be on Wednesday 29th July while Fishing Reminder shows 0% Moon to be on Thursday 30th July! Please reply to stop my confusion! This may alter my best days to go fishing?

Thanks for your question.
The best fishing times are calculated area specific - depending on your latitude and longitude, local time and timezone.
Initially your location is auto-detected from your IP address.
You can then always pinpoint your exact location on the map and the times will adjust.
Times are calculated on the server from moonrise/set, sunrise/set, moonphase, tidestatation, etc.

This looks a great site I am sure it will be of help to lots of anglers.
The only problem I am having is trying to set the email reminder.
I am probably doing something wrong. I am selecting all the check boxes for best times and the good and excellent check boxes for day rating. Then setting the reminder for 2 days and 1 day and clicking save changes but nothing seems to happen.
When I log back in all the settings are defaulted. What am I doing wrong?

The Tide predictions on the BBC Site are probably more correct.
I'm using a program called xtide to calculate tides based on harmonic data.
So the tides here are just rough estimates.
I found that they are quiet accurate for most tide stations around the world, but not for all.
Don't rely on the tide times here, but rather take them as rough guidelines to accompany the best times for your location.

If you log in and select your location it will be automatically saved.
And the next time you visit this site, your home position will be selected and shown by default.
Just remember to select the "remember me" checkbox next time you log in.
That way you don't have to type in your details each time you come to this site and you can always quickly see the best times for your location.

JT - Hi there - It is now possible to view the weather infos in imperial units for American Standards.
The units for your location will be auto-detected by default.
In case the auto-detection fails, you can click on "imperial" or "metric" to choose what you prefer.

Cheers and happy fishing. - You should change the temp, wind speed, and brametric pressure to an American standard, or atleast allow the user to pick which system of measurement to use.
- Awesome site. Only one thing I have a problem with is the temp. I have trouble converting it from celsius to fehrenheit. Other than that, great tool.
