Hi m.khattab, Yes Flathead is a very nice eating fish, just fillet as per normal and can be cooked in a variety of ways, I like to just pan fry it in a light flour/breadcrumb coating. Not a poisonous fin, but the spikes are quite painful if they get you, this I know very well :)

Thank you Yaktricity, Where I live we sometimes get massive sizes of this fish on lines, but I always tend to release since I've come to see every one here do this. Next time I should really try it. Cheers man and best of luck out there always.

This fish is also known as Fly-catcher in some countries. Caught several of them over the years, not of this size though, BUT I heard it is not fit for eating as some believe it may cause hair-fall. Dunno how far its true - never tasted them. Maybe that is why most folks tend to release them.

Not to sure where abouts you are Lady-Angler, but here in Australia there are absolutley no health issues with eating flatties, they are probably one of the most commonly caught, and eaten fish, Australia wide. Though ones of this size are normally released (as was this one) as these are the big female breeders.
