Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Conway
Conway, Arkansas fishing centers around shallow, stump-filled Lake Conway with bonus access to the Arkansas River and nearby small waters. The lake’s fertile, woody habitat grows big largemouth bass, thick crappie, and plenty of panfish and catfish. Success here is all about reading shallow cover, understanding seasonal movements, and choosing tackle that can survive heavy timber.
Seasonal patterns are dominated by shallow water behavior. In late winter and early spring, bass and crappie stage along creek channels, ditches, and the first hard cover off spawning flats. Jigs and soft plastics pitched to laydowns and stumps are productive. As water warms into March–April, fish push shallow to spawn in protected pockets, cypress knees, and brush near the bank; weightless plastics, Texas-rigged creature baits, and small crappie jigs under corks shine here.
By summer, vegetation thickens and water temps climb, pushing bass to shade and slightly deeper wood. Early and late in the day, work topwaters around cypress trees, weed edges, and shallow flats, then slow down with Texas rigs, jig-and-craw combos, and wacky worms pitched directly into holes in the cover. Crappie relate to brush piles, stake beds, and deeper timber—vertically jig 1/16–1/8 oz tube or marabou jigs, or use minnows just above the cover. Catfish action peaks on warm nights; cut shad, chicken liver, and stink baits on slip rigs fished around creek mouths, channel edges, and riprap are reliable.
Fall brings some of the best overall fishing in Conway. Cooling water pulls shad shallow, and bass and white bass often school and chase baitfish. Small crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and lipless cranks worked across flats, points, and along channel swings can produce fast action. Crappie stack tighter on brush, making electronics particularly valuable for staying on schools. Panfish like bluegill and redear stay active around docks, grass lines, and cypress roots—crickets or small pieces of worm under a float are simple, consistent producers.
Habitat and tactics revolve around three main zones: cypress stands, flooded timber, and channel structure. For cypress and shallow wood, use heavier line (15–20 lb fluorocarbon or 30–50 lb braid) to wrestle fish out quickly. Flip or pitch compact jigs and Texas rigs in dark colors like black/blue or green pumpkin, adding a rattle when the water is stained. In thick stump fields, a squarebill crankbait or weedless swim jig allows you to deflect off cover without snagging as often.
The Arkansas River near Conway adds a completely different fishery with current, wing dikes, and deeper holes that hold blue catfish, striped bass, white bass, and drum. Target current breaks, eddies, and the downstream tips of rock structures with heavy jigheads, swimbaits, and live or cut bait on slip-sinker rigs. In all Conway-area waters, a small assortment of confidence baits—Texas-rig worm, jig and trailer, spinnerbait, crappie jigs, and basic catfish rigs—will cover nearly every situation you’ll encounter.

If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes.
