Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 16:48 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Lincoln

Lincoln sits on a prime section of the River Witham and the Fossdyke Navigation, giving anglers a mix of flowing canalised river, classic fen drains and heavily stocked commercials. Coarse fishing dominates, with reliable sport for bream, roach, perch and skimmers, plus specimen pike, increasingly common zander and carp in nearby stillwaters. The flat terrain, towpaths and well-developed access make Lincoln a practical choice for pleasure, match and specialist anglers alike.

On the River Witham through and downstream of Lincoln, the key species are bream, skimmers, roach, perch and pike. The river behaves like a slow canal, so treat it as such: target the far-shelf drop-off, any boat moorings, bends and marinas. In spring, fish migrate into shallower, warmer edges and boat channels; light waggler or pole tactics with maggots, pinkies and small expanders over micro pellets score well. As the water warms into summer, morning and evening sessions are best on clear days, with casters, hemp and worms picking out better roach and perch.

Autumn is the prime time for bream and skimmers on the Witham and Fossdyke. Build a bed of groundbait laced with chopped worm and micro pellets on the 11–13m line (pole) or at 25–35m (feeder). A window feeder or open-end feeder with worms, corn or double maggot is a consistent approach. Keep the feed modest at first, then top up once fish arrive. Look for areas with a bit more depth or a gentle bend; these often hold the biggest shoals.

Pike and zander attract predator anglers to the Fossdyke and lower Witham, particularly from late autumn through winter. Work deadbaits (smelt, roach, lamprey sections) along the boat channels and around marinas, leapfrogging every 20–30 minutes until you locate fish. For lure fishing, compact shads and paddle-tails in 7–10cm sizes, fished near the bottom with slow retrieves, are effective. Focus on colour changes, mooring gaps, bridges and any inflows where baitfish congregate.

Fen-style drains and dykes around Lincoln hold roach, rudd, skimmers, tench and pike. These narrow, uniform venues reward careful plumbing and feeding. Start on a top kit plus one or two pole sections, feeding tiny nuggets of groundbait and a dozen maggots, then push further out only if needed. On still, bright days, scale down to fine hooklengths and small floats; in windy conditions, a small block-end feeder can out-fish the pole by presenting firmly on the deck.

Commercial fisheries in the Lincoln area provide consistent carp and mixed coarse fishing in all but the coldest weather. In warmer months, pellets dominate: method feeders tight to islands, short-pole pellet fishing and shallow slapping tactics all produce carp, F1s and quality silvers. When temperatures drop, switch to maggot or bread on the method or bomb, and reduce feed rates significantly. Margins come into their own late evening in summer; loose-feed pellets by hand and fish a robust rig tight to any reed beds or platforms.

Year-round, success around Lincoln comes from reading each venue’s pace, depth and colour, feeding carefully to build the swim and staying mobile if bites dry up. The combination of navigable river, drains and commercials means there is always somewhere giving good sport within a short drive of the city centre.
