Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 16:34 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. The graph below shows you the 3 hourly weather progression over the next 7 days. Scroll the graph left or right to see more.

Fishing Overview Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes fishing revolves around a network of park lakes, the Grand Union Canal and short river sections, all holding good mixed coarse stocks and genuine specimen potential. Caldecotte, Willen, Furzton and Lodge Lake are the headline waters, backed up by smaller ponds and long stretches of canal threading across the grid-road system. Access and parking are generally excellent, which makes the area popular for short evening sessions as well as longer campaigns.

Stillwaters such as Caldecotte and Furzton are classic big, open Milton Keynes “bowl” lakes. Carp dominate the headlines, with double-figure and twenty-plus fish common, backed by shoals of bream, tench and roach. In spring, carp patrol the warmer, shallower arms and margins – target any bays that get prolonged sun and are sheltered from the wind. Method feeders or hybrid feeders with wafters over small pellets are consistent, while zigs score on bright, high-pressure days when fish cruise mid-water.

Through summer, the lakes respond well to margin work. Pre-bait tight edges, reed lines and under overhanging trees with corn, pellets and groundbait, then fish short with a pole or waggler. Subtle, regular loose feed of 4–6 mm pellets keeps bream and tench grazing; step up hooklengths and elastic if carp move in. On busy park lakes, scaling down to smaller hooks and lighter lines often out-fishes heavy carp gear when targeting silvers.

Autumn brings some of the best all-round sport. Bream and skimmers bunch up on harder areas and old river channels; use a feeder to find firm spots among silt and weed before committing bait. Fish a small cage feeder with groundbait and dead maggots for mixed bags, or go larger with a method feeder and 8–10 mm wafters when specifically chasing carp. As water clarity improves, keep rigs neat, hooklengths a touch longer, and avoid overfeeding—especially on clear, still days.

Winter sees the Milton Keynes lakes clear further, and this is the time to switch focus to perch and pike. Perch congregate around features such as bridges, moored boats, aerators and any remaining weed beds. Canal-style tactics with a light float and worm or prawn, or scaled-down drop-shotting, catch the bigger fish. For pike, work deadbaits on the windward banks of Caldecotte, Willen or the Grand Union Canal bends, leapfrogging every 20–30 minutes to locate active fish.

The Grand Union Canal through Milton Keynes offers classic narrowboat and pound features: bridge holes, marinas, locks and turning bays. Roach, skimmers and gudgeon provide year-round sport on pole and whip tactics; focus on the far-shelf slope and track with groundbait and pinkies for bites in tough conditions. Predator anglers find zander, perch and pike along the same structure lines. Small jig heads, finesse soft plastics and dropshot rigs excel, particularly in winter when boat traffic drops.

Tactically, travel light and be mobile. Milton Keynes fish see pressure, so refined end tackle, accurate casting and careful feeding make a clear difference. Watch the water constantly—showing carp, topping roach and swirling predators quickly reveal productive areas on these big, open city waters.
