Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Lisburn
Lisburn fishing is dominated by the River Lagan and its canalised sections, backed up by small lakes, club waters and day-ticket fisheries within a short drive. The area suits both travelling and local anglers, with easy road and rail access and a mix of wild river fishing and more controlled stillwaters for consistent sport.
The River Lagan through Lisburn holds wild brown trout, some salmon and sea trout, plus a growing coarse fish population in the slower reaches. From early April, trout respond well to small dry flies and spiders fished on light tackle. Olive and dark patterns work in clear flows, while slightly larger, bushier dries help when the river colours up. In cooler water, weighted nymphs and small tungsten jigs drifted through the deeper seams consistently pick up fish.
Seasonal patterns on the Lagan are straightforward. Spring brings improving water clarity and active trout feeding in riffles and pocket water; focus on warm afternoons with a subtle upstream dry or duo setup. Summer sees lower levels and more weed growth, so scale down to fine tippets, long leaders and small emergers, and fish first light and last light to avoid pressured fish. Autumn often gives the best overall fishing, with coloured water encouraging trout and the occasional salmon to move; this is the time for small copper or silver spinners, or compact tubes and shrimp-style flies on overcast days. Winter can still produce fish with slowly worked soft plastics, small metal jigs and heavy nymphs in the deeper bends.
Coarse and predator anglers in the Lisburn area target pike, perch, roach and bream in the slower Lagan stretches, the remnants of the Lagan Navigation and nearby ponds. Look for deeper outside bends, moored-boat areas and marinas where baitfish concentrate. Pike respond to wobbling deadbaits, medium-sized spinners and shallow-diving plugs; in coloured water, choose loud patterns with plenty of vibration. Perch are tightly shoaled—fish small worms, prawns or soft plastics around bridges, pilings and any submerged structure, keeping your rig just off the bottom.
Stillwaters and club lakes around Lisburn often hold stocked rainbow trout and mixed coarse species. On trout fisheries, intermediate lines with small lures, damsels and buzzers cover most situations; vary retrieve speed until you find the depth and pace fish want. On coarse venues, a simple waggler or feeder approach with maggots, sweetcorn or pellets will regularly take roach, bream and tench. Feed little and often, and step up hooklengths if pike are present and biting off rigs.
Tactically, success around Lisburn comes from mobile fishing and careful water reading. Work short sections of bank thoroughly rather than camping on one swim. Target inflows, confluences, overhanging trees, weed edges and any break in flow. Waders help you cover more water on the Lagan, but even from the bank, casting upstream at an angle and controlling drift with minimal drag is key for trout. For lure and coarse anglers, keep tackle compact and organised so you can move quickly between spots until you locate active fish.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes. We found 5 beaches and bays in this area.

Harbours and Marinas can often times be productive fishing spots for land based fishing as their sheltered environment attracts a wide variety of bait fish. Similar to river mouths, harbour entrances are also great places to fish as lots of fish will move in and out with the rising and falling tides. There are 2 main harbours in this area.
