Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Haverfordwest
Haverfordwest sits on the Western Cleddau, giving anglers a central base for river, estuary and coastal fishing across Pembrokeshire. The town stretch of the Cleddau, nearby tributaries and the short drive to Milford Haven, Dale, Broad Haven and Newgale combine to offer yearβround opportunities for coarse, game and sea anglers.
On the rivers, the Western and Eastern Cleddau are best known for sea trout and salmon, with brown trout and grayling providing consistent sport. Spring sees trout becoming more active on small nymphs and spiders worked through runs and glides; size 14β18 patterns in natural olives and hareβs ear tones are reliable. From late May into summer, focus shifts to evening and night fishing for sea trout. Use sinking or intermediate lines with small dark doubles early in the season, changing to surface lures and wake flies on warm, low-water nights. Salmon respond to slightly larger doubles and tubes fished on floating lines with long leaders when the river is fining down after rain.
Coarse anglers around Haverfordwest target mixed stillwaters and slower river sections. Typical species include pike, perch, roach, bream, carp and tench. Pike respond well from late autumn through early spring to wobbed deadbaits and mediumβsized jerkbaits worked along dropβoffs and reed lines. In milder months, small method feeders with sweetcorn, pellets or mini boilies pick out carp and bream, while light waggler or pole tactics over microβpellet feed keep bites coming from roach and perch.
The Western Cleddau widens into a productive estuary as it feeds into Milford Haven, offering flounder, bass and occasional mullet. Flounder are a solid winter target on the muddy bends and creeks; use simple twoβhook flapper rigs with size 1β2 hooks, baited with ragworm or mackerel strip, cast just beyond the nearβside channel. Through late spring and summer, travelβlight lure sessions for bass along estuary banks and adjacent surf beaches can be very effective. Work soft plastics on 7β14g jig heads, or shallowβdiving hard lures across current seams, creek mouths and sandbar edges on the last few hours of the flood and first of the ebb.
Within a short drive of Haverfordwest, the open coast at Dale, Broad Haven, Little Haven and Newgale produces classic West Wales sea fishing. From late spring to autumn, mackerel, garfish and pollack show from rock marks; small metal lures, feathers and sandeelβstyle soft plastics cover most situations. Deeper rock venues and breakwaters give opportunities for rays, smoothhounds, bull huss and conger. Use strong mono or fluorocarbon traces (40β60lb) with pulley or upβandβover rigs, baited with peeler crab for smoothhounds and mackerel or squid for rays and huss, casting onto clean sand patches between rough ground.
Winter sea fishing focuses on whiting, codling, dogfish and rays from surf beaches and deeper rock marks. Night sessions during a building tide usually outβfish daytime trips. Keep rigs straightforward: single or twoβhook clipβdown rigs with fresh black lug, squid or cocktail baits, matched to a strong 12β13ft beach rod and 5β6oz leads to hold in the surf. Around Haverfordwest, success generally comes from fishing the right state of tide, travelling light enough to move between marks, and matching your bait and rigs closely to the ground in front of you.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes. We found 20 beaches and bays in this area.

Harbours and Marinas can often times be productive fishing spots for land based fishing as their sheltered environment attracts a wide variety of bait fish. Similar to river mouths, harbour entrances are also great places to fish as lots of fish will move in and out with the rising and falling tides. There are 2 main harbours in this area.
