Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Andalusia
Andalusia, Alabama sits between two heavily fished impoundments on the Conecuh RiverβGantt Lake to the north and Point A Lake to the southβplus stretches of freeβflowing river. These waters fish differently through the year, so dialing in seasonal patterns and specific habitat is the key to consistent success.
Spring is prime time for Andalusia bass and crappie. As water temps reach the low 60s, largemouth push shallow on Gantt and Point A, flooding into pockets, small coves, and along protected shorelines with sand or firm clay. Target the backs of creeks and short secondary points with spinnerbaits, squarebill crankbaits, and Texas-rigged soft plastics. Black and blue or green pumpkin worms and creature baits are staples around laydowns and shoreline weeds. Crappie stack on brush, stake beds, and dock pilings off the main river channel; small tube jigs and 1/16β1/32 oz marabou jigs under a fixed float excel when worked slowly over cover.
In summer, the bite shifts deeper and closer to current. On both lakes, bass set up on main-lake points, old creek channels, and the first major drop from the bank. Early and late, work topwatersβwalking baits, buzzbaits, and poppersβalong seawalls, grasslines, and shallow flats. Once the sun is high, slow-roll deep-diving crankbaits, Carolina rigs, and big ribbon-tail worms along ledges and brushpiles. The Conecuh River itself fishes well in summer; work eddies behind laydowns and bends with compact jigs and small crankbaits, letting current carry the bait naturally.
Catfish action stays reliable from late spring through early fall. Channel and blue catfish roam river holes, the base of drop-offs, and the downstream edges of humps. Anchor just upriver of a depth change and fan-cast cut shad, chicken liver, or commercial stink bait on slip-sinker rigs. Night fishing around the old river channel on both Gantt and Point A can produce quality blue and flathead catfish when boat traffic is low and baitfish move shallow.
Fall brings aggressive feeding as bait pushes into creeks. Watch for surface activity and diving birds on the main lake; schooling bass and the occasional striped or hybrid striped bass will bust shad around points and mid-lake flats. Keep a chrome lipless crankbait, small swimbait, or fluke-style soft jerkbait ready to fire into schooling fish. Work shallow-running crankbaits in shad patterns along rocky banks and wood, and donβt overlook small spinnerbaits for numbers of bass and big bream.
Winter fishing is more methodical, but Andalusia waters still produce. Bass and crappie concentrate tighter on deeper structureβchannel swings, bridge pilings, and stacked brush in 15β25 feet. Use finesse presentations: jigging spoons vertically, shaky-head worms, and small hair jigs for crappie. Move slowly, rely on electronics to stay over bait and structure, and make repeated casts from multiple angles to trigger lethargic fish.
Across Gantt Lake, Point A Lake, and the Conecuh River, the most productive pattern is simple: find bait, current breaks, and cover, then adjust lure depth and speed to match the season. Consistently probing that intersection of structure and food will keep rods bending in Andalusia nearly any month of the year.
