Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Pine Bluff
Pine Bluff, Arkansas offers year-round freshwater fishing anchored by the Arkansas River, along with Lake Langhofer, Shepherd Lake, and numerous adjacent backwaters and oxbows. This stretch of river is known for strong catfish numbers, dependable crappie fishing, and solid largemouth bass around man-made and natural structure. Access is good from multiple ramps in and around town, giving both boat and bank anglers plenty of options.
Seasonal patterns center on river levels and water temperatures. In late winter and early spring, prespawn largemouth and spotted bass stack on rocky points, riprap, and inside bends where current breaks meet deeper holes. Jigs, Texas-rigged creature baits, and medium-diving crankbaits excel. Crappie stage on brush piles, standing timber, and bridge pilings in Lake Langhofer and protected backwaters; small jigs and minnows fished 8–15 feet down are reliable producers. As water warms into late spring, spawning bluegill and redear sunfish move shallow around grass, stumps, and docks, making worms and small jigs under a float highly effective.
Summer fishing around Pine Bluff leans heavily on current and low-light windows. On the Arkansas River, blue and channel catfish feed actively along ledges, wing dikes, the ends of jetties, and scour holes below them. Cut shad, skipjack, or chicken liver on slip-sinker rigs or three-way rigs get bites when placed just off the strongest current. Night fishing is especially productive along riprap and along the edges of navigation channels. Bass push to shade and current seams; work topwaters early and late over shallow rock and wood, then transition to deep-diving crankbaits, Carolina rigs, and big worms on ledges and drop-offs as the sun climbs.
Fall brings some of the most consistent action. Shad migrate into creeks, marinas, and backwater pockets, pulling white bass, striped bass, hybrid stripers, and largemouth with them. Watch for surface schooling activity and birds; cast small swimbaits, spoons, or lipless crankbaits into the fray. Crappie slide back onto deeper brush and channel edges, where vertical jigging or double-minnow rigs are highly effective. Catfish remain active on cut bait and live baitfish along the channel edge until water temps drop sharply.
Winter concentrates fish in deeper, slower water. Catfish stack on the deep side of bends and at the base of ledges; use heavier sinkers to hold in place and present cut bait close to bottom. Crappie hold tight to deeper brush or timber; downsize to light line and small jigs or minnows to coax bites in the clearer, colder water. Bass fishing can still be productive with jig-and-trailer combinations, blade baits, and suspending jerkbaits worked slowly around rocky banks that absorb and radiate warmth.
Key habitat types around Pine Bluff include riprap banks, channel swings, wing dikes, submerged timber, brush piles, marinas, and flooded backwaters. Target current breaks where fast water sweeps past an eddy, especially along the main channel. Electronics help dial in depth and structure in Lake Langhofer and the quieter side channels, but simple visual cues—such as rock, wood, and confluences—remain top starting points for bank and boat anglers alike.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes. We found 9 beaches and bays in this area.
