Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Texarkana
Fishing in Texarkana revolves around a network of big reservoirs, timbered backwaters, and winding rivers that keep rods bent through every season. Wright Patman Lake to the southwest and Millwood Lake just across the Arkansas line anchor the local scene, while the Sulphur River, Red River backwaters, and numerous city and farm ponds give anglers plenty of close‑to‑home options.
Seasonal patterns are predictable and worth planning around. In late winter and early spring, prespawn largemouth bass slide up creek channels and stage on secondary points, brush piles, and flooded timber. Jigs, lipless crankbaits, and squarebills in red or craw patterns dominate in stained water. Crappie follow a similar schedule on Wright Patman and Millwood: look for them suspended on timber along creek edges, then sliding shallow to brush and cattails when water temps hit the upper 50s to low 60s. Catfish action steadily improves during spring warming trends, with blue and channel catfish stacking on ledges and windblown points where shad concentrate.
Summer in the Texarkana area is about deep structure and current. On Wright Patman, bass and white bass school on main‑lake humps, roadbeds, and river-channel bends. Carolina rigs, deep crankbaits, and big flutter spoons excel once the sun gets high. Early and late, work topwaters over shallow flats and along riprap for bonus fish. On Millwood, current from the Little River keeps water cooler and baitfish active; target outside bends, laydowns, and main‑river sandbars with Texas‑rigged worms and spinnerbaits. Night fishing for blue catfish and channel catfish gets strong in summer—anchor on channel edges and ledges using cut shad, stinkbait, or chicken liver.
Fall is arguably prime time around Texarkana. Cooling water pushes shad shallow into creeks and coves, and almost everything in the lake follows. Work shad‑colored crankbaits, swimbaits, and buzzbaits around the backs of creeks, flooded grass, and shallow wood. Watch for surface schooling activity—white bass and hybrids often trap shad on windblown banks and points; have a chrome spoon or small topwater ready to cast into breaking fish. Crappie stack back up on mid‑depth brush piles and standing timber, biting jigs and minnows with consistency.
Winter fishing focuses on vertical presentations. Bass, crappie, and catfish all relate tightly to the river channels, deeper timber, and man‑made brush. Jigging spoons, blade baits, and small jigs fished slowly just off bottom are reliable producers. On cold, cloudy days with a little wind, crankbaits along rocky banks can still surprise you with big largemouths.
Across the region, key habitat types repeat from water to water: flooded timber, cypress stands, hydrilla and coontail patches, willow lines, and riprap. In the muddy or stained systems common around Texarkana, noisy baits with vibration—spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and thumping Colorado‑blade spinners—are hard to beat. In clearer pockets or small ponds, downsizing to finesse worms, small jigs, and suspending jerkbaits can turn followers into biters. Bank anglers should target bridges, public ramps, riprap, and park shorelines, especially where wind pushes bait into the bank.
To fish Texarkana efficiently, think current, cover, and bait. Use electronics or a simple depth finder to locate drops, brush, and channel swings, then let water temperature and season tell you whether to fish shallow or deep. Move until you intersect active fish; once you do, slow down and thoroughly work that zone. With multiple major lakes and rivers within a short drive, Texarkana consistently rewards anglers who pay attention to seasonal movement and adjust tactics to match these productive southeast‑border waters.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes.
