Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 13:55 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. The graph below shows you the 3 hourly weather progression over the next 7 days. Scroll the graph left or right to see more.

Fishing Overview Kissimmee

Kissimmee, Florida, anchored by Lake Tohopekaliga and the broader Kissimmee Chain of Lakes, offers some of the most reliable freshwater fishing in the Southeast. Shallow, grass-laden lakes, abundant shad and panfish forage, and stable subtropical weather create a near-perfect environment for trophy largemouth bass and steady multispecies action all year.

Seasonal patterns in Kissimmee revolve around bass spawning and vegetation growth cycles. From late December through March, big female bass move onto sandy spawning flats and protected reed-lined bays in Lake Toho, Lake Kissimmee, and Cypress Lake. Sight-fishing becomes a prime tactic in clear pockets among hydrilla, Kissimmee grass, and eelgrass. As water warms in late spring, bass shift to outside grass lines, pad fields, and deeper hydrilla edges in 5–8 feet. Summer brings early-morning and low-light feeding windows around offshore shell bars, hydrilla points, and open-water shad schools, while afternoons favor punching matted vegetation. Fall sees bass chasing shad into canals, creek mouths, and windblown shorelines, making moving baits particularly effective.

The dominant habitat types are shallow grass flats, dense hydrilla beds, maidencane and Kissimmee grass lines, lily pad fields, and scattered offshore shell bars or depressions. On Lake Toho, look for eelgrass and hydrilla clumps near deeper water breaks, especially on the north shore and in mid-lake offshore grass. Lake Kissimmee features expansive shallow grass and pads; key areas are edges where different vegetation types meet, subtle depth changes from 2 to 4 feet, and current-influenced cuts between islands.

Successful techniques for largemouth bass in Kissimmee include both live bait and artificials. Live wild shiners, free-lined or under a float along grass edges, are a standout for trophy fish, especially during the spawn and cold fronts. For artificials, focus on:

  • Soft-plastic speed worms and swimming worms, buzzed over grass and pads.
  • Texas-rigged creature baits flipped into reeds, pads, and tight grass pockets.
  • Lipless crankbaits and shallow cranks ripped along hydrilla edges in spring and fall.
  • Hollow-body frogs worked over pads and matted vegetation on low-light mornings.
  • Punch rigs (1–1.5 oz) for penetrating thick mats in summer mid-day heat.

Crappie (specks) are another major draw, especially on Lake Kissimmee and the southern lakes in the chain. Winter and early spring are prime: slow-troll (spider rig) or long-line small jigs and minnows over open-water flats in 6–10 feet, then shift to dipping minnows or jigs around bulrush, pads, and submerged brush as fish move shallow to spawn. Light line and a slow, steady presentation are key to consistent limits.

Bluegill and shellcracker fishing peaks late spring through summer around shell beds, sandy pockets in bulrush, and inside pad fields. Drop live worms or crickets near bedding areas in 2–4 feet, moving quietly between beds. Catfish roam deeper troughs, old river channels, and riprap; cut bait or chicken liver on bottom rigs produces after dark.

Tactically, wind direction and subtle depth changes matter. Wind-blown grass lines often gather shad and fire up the bite, while small depressions or ditches running through flats act as bass highways. Use side-imaging to locate offshore hydrilla clumps and shell spots, then work them methodically with lipless cranks, Carolina rigs, or swimbaits. In this shallow, weedy system, accurate casting, quiet boat positioning, and rotating between power fishing and slower presentations will consistently produce in the Kissimmee area.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes. We found 3 beaches and bays in this area.

Richardsons Fish Camp Marina - 5.67324199141km , East Lake Fish Camp Marina - 12.31725171234km , Gator Bay Branch - 17.16922795659km

Harbours and Marinas can often times be productive fishing spots for land based fishing as their sheltered environment attracts a wide variety of bait fish. Similar to river mouths, harbour entrances are also great places to fish as lots of fish will move in and out with the rising and falling tides. There are 4 main harbours in this area.
