Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 15:9 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Warsaw

Warsaw, New York sits in the heart of Wyoming County’s trout belt, with quick access to some of western New York’s best cold-water streams and a network of warm-water ponds and small lakes. The standout fisheries near town are Oatka Creek and Wiscoy Creek, both well-known for wild and stocked trout, along with smaller tributaries and farm ponds that hold bass and panfish.

Seasonal patterns drive success around Warsaw. From early spring through late May, Oatka and Wiscoy run cold and productive. As soon as flows stabilize, drift small nymphs and egg patterns under indicators for brown and rainbow trout. Overcast days with slightly off-colored water fish best, especially when levels are receding after a rain. Late spring into early summer brings strong insect activity; evenings can see intense caddis and mayfly hatches that reward precise dry-fly presentations in the softer seams and tailouts.

By mid-summer, trout push into deeper pools, shady banks, and groundwater-fed sections. Fish early and late with small attractor dries, terrestrials, and lightly weighted nymphs; mid-day, switch to stealthy presentations with longer leaders and smaller flies. Warm-water options pick up at this time in nearby ponds and slow stretches of creeks, where largemouth and smallmouth bass, sunfish, and perch respond well to finesse plastics, small crankbaits, and live bait.

Fall is a prime window around Warsaw, as cooling water reinvigorates trout. Browns feed heavily in anticipation of spawning, making streamers especially effective. Cover deeper runs, undercut banks, and log jams with short, controlled swings or strips. Bass and panfish in local lakes also feed aggressively before turnover; downsized jerkbaits, lipless cranks, and compact jigs around weed edges and rocky transitions produce steady action until water temps drop into the 40s.

Habitat and key areas are mostly classic upstate New York features: gravel runs, riffle-pool sequences, and wooded banks in the trout streams, plus small reservoirs, farm ponds, and backwaters that hold warm-water species. Look for:

  • Broken current at the heads of pools and below riffles for actively feeding trout.
  • Undercut banks, downed wood, and shaded bends for larger, cautious browns.
  • Weed lines, submerged timber, and riprap shorelines in ponds and lakes for bass and panfish.
  • Slow, deep bends and eddies for carp, suckers, and the occasional pike or walleye.

Techniques and tactical tips should match the clear, pressured nature of these waters. Light line and small offerings usually out-fish heavy gear:

  • For trout, 4–6 lb test or 4–5 wt fly outfits with long, fine leaders excel. Nymphs, small spinners, and micro-jigs work well when fished near the bottom in current seams.
  • When trout get selective, switch to smaller flies or lures and approach from downstream, wading softly to avoid pushing fish out of prime lies.
  • For bass, use medium-light spinning tackle with braided mainline and fluorocarbon leaders; target structure thoroughly, making multiple casts from different angles.
  • In ponds, slow down with wacky-rigged worms, Ned rigs, and small topwaters during low-light periods, especially around visible cover.
  • For carp and rough fish, simple corn or dough-bait rigs on light line will draw bites in slow pools and lake margins.

Anglers basing out of Warsaw can efficiently sample diverse waters in a compact radius, from intimate trout runs to relaxed pond fishing, by tailoring presentations to season, flow, and clarity.
