Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 13:35 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview El Dorado

El Dorado, Kansas fishing revolves around El Dorado Lake, a sprawling reservoir just northeast of town that’s become one of the state’s most consistent multi‑species fisheries. The main lake, river arms, and surrounding ponds give anglers a mix of shallow coves, rocky points, flooded timber, and open main‑lake structure that hold fish all year.

Seasonal patterns are key on El Dorado Lake. In early spring, walleye, saugeye, and white bass push shallow along windblown rock, riprap, and main‑lake points. Work 1/8–1/4 oz jigs tipped with minnows or soft plastics slowly along the bottom, especially at first light and after dark. Crappie stage on channel edges and brush in 8–15 feet, then slide into flooded bushes and shallow timber as water temperatures move into the 60s; minnows or small tube jigs under a fixed or slip float are highly effective.

Summer fishing around El Dorado shifts deeper and more offshore. Walleye and hybrid striped bass (wipers) set up on humps, roadbeds, and long points in 15–25 feet. Use bottom bouncers with crawler harnesses, or vertically jig spoons and blade baits when you mark fish on electronics. White bass often school on mid‑lake flats and will give themselves away with surface busts; casting small chrome spoons, spinners, or 2–3 inch swimbaits into the jumps can produce fast action. Channel catfish bite steadily along windblown shorelines, creek channels, and flats; cut shad, stink bait, and nightcrawlers on slip rigs are staple baits.

Fall is one of the best times to fish El Dorado. Cooling water pulls baitfish shallow, and most species feed aggressively. Work reaction baits—crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and lipless cranks—for largemouth and smallmouth bass around rocky banks, submerged brush, and remaining weed edges. Walleye and white bass roam main‑lake points and shorelines; trolling medium‑diving crankbaits parallel to banks or fan‑casting jigs and swimbaits covers water efficiently. Crappie stack on brush piles, bridge pilings, and standing timber; slowly present jigs vertically and hold them still in the strike zone.

Winter anglers around El Dorado do best by slowing down and targeting stable deep structure. Look for crappie and white bass hovering over brush, channel swings, and drop‑offs; use small jigs, spoons, or live minnows presented with minimal movement. Walleye often hug the bottom on deeper points and old roadbeds—light jigs and subtle presentations are important when the water’s clear and cold. Catfish remain catchable around channel bends and deeper holes using cut bait on bottom rigs.

Habitat and tactical tips:

  • Focus on windblown shorelines and points on El Dorado Lake; wind pushes plankton and baitfish and consistently improves the bite.
  • Use electronics to locate submerged roadbeds, foundations, and brush piles; these man‑made structures hold walleye, crappie, and bass throughout the year.
  • Bank anglers should target accessible riprap, fishing piers, and creek inlets with simple slip‑bobber rigs, bottom rigs for catfish, and small jigs for panfish.
  • Downsize line and lures when the water is clear, and step up to heavier gear and more visible baits when the lake muddies after strong rains.
  • Early and late in the day generally offer the best multi‑species action; mid‑day success often comes from fishing deeper and tighter to structure.

Whether you launch a boat on El Dorado Lake or walk the bank of a nearby farm pond, the El Dorado area offers consistent opportunities for walleye, hybrid stripers, white bass, crappie, catfish, and panfish with simple, proven tactics.
