Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Garden City
Garden City, SC fishing revolves around three distinct zones: the surf and Garden City Pier, the marshes and creeks of nearby Murrells Inlet, and a broad stretch of nearshore and offshore structure. Each area fishes differently by season, so timing and tactics matter as much as location.
In spring, warming water pulls redfish, speckled trout, and flounder onto the edges of creeks and oyster-studded bays inside Murrells Inlet. Work mud and shell transitions on a moving tide with 1/8–1/4 oz jigheads and 3–4 inch soft plastics in natural shrimp or mullet colors. Live mud minnows or shrimp under a popping cork are deadly along grass lines and dock pilings. Early and late, target shallow flats adjacent to deeper drains; mid-day, slide to the first drop-off where current edges form.
By late May and all summer, Garden City surf and pier fishing hit their stride. The beachfront produces pompano, whiting, spot, croaker, bluefish, Spanish mackerel, and sharks. For the surf, run a two‑hook bottom rig with 1–3 oz pyramid sinkers and small circle hooks tipped with shrimp, Fishbites, or cut bait. Cast just beyond the first bar at dawn and dusk when fish cruise tight to shore. On Garden City Pier, keep a medium spinning outfit rigged with a 1/2–1 oz glass minnow or Got-Cha plug for Spanish mackerel blitzes; drop small pieces of shrimp on light bottom rigs straight down around the pilings for sheepshead, black drum, and spot.
Nearshore, summer brings king mackerel, cobia, spadefish, and sharks to wrecks, reefs, and live bottom starting about 3–15 miles off Garden City. Slow-troll live menhaden or mullet on stinger rigs around bait schools and buoys for kings. For spadefish, anchor on popular reefs, then chum with jellyfish pieces or clam and drop small hooks on light leaders. Cobia often shadow buoys and rays—keep a heavier spinning rod ready with a bucktail jig or live bait whenever you’re running between spots.
Fall is arguably the prime season. As bait flushes out of the inlet, bull red drum stack up at jetties, sand bars, and inlet mouths. Anchor up-current of a bar or jetty corner and fish fresh cut mullet or menhaden on fish‑finder rigs. Inside the inlet, trout tighten into deeper bends and channel edges; work slow, subtle soft plastics or live shrimp just off bottom. Flounder concentrate on hard patches along channel edges and around bridge and dock pilings—drag bucktail‑minnow combos or slow‑roll live baits along the bottom.
Winter fishing around Garden City focuses on deeper holes, channels, and nearshore structure. Redfish school tightly on shallow mud flats on sunny afternoons; sight-cast with small, natural-colored soft plastics on light fluorocarbon leaders. Offshore, cooler water stabilizes black sea bass, triggerfish, and snapper on reefs. Use vertical chicken rigs with squid or cut bait and enough weight to hold bottom; a subtle lift‑and‑drop keeps baits just off the reef and cuts hang‑ups.
Across all seasons, success near Garden City hinges on reading tides and bait. Fish moving water, focus on visible current seams, points, and structure, and constantly adjust weight and leader size to match conditions and water clarity.
