Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Georgetown
Georgetown, South Carolina is built for anglers, with miles of tidal marsh, cypress-lined rivers, and direct access to Winyah Bay and the Atlantic. The key is understanding how salinity, tides, and seasons shift fish between the rivers, bay, and beachfront.
Spring fishing around Georgetown kicks off in the creeks and marsh edges as water temps climb into the 60s. Red drum and speckled trout slide onto shallow oyster bars and flooded grass on rising tides. Work 3–4 inch soft plastics on 1/8–1/4 oz jig heads around points, drains, and shell rakes from the South Santee River up through the Waccamaw. Live shrimp under a popping cork is deadly around current seams in Winyah Bay, especially near creek mouths dumping into the main channel.
By summer, focus early and late around the jetties, nearshore reefs, and deeper river holes. At the Georgetown jetties, target trout and redfish with live mullet or menhaden on a Carolina rig, keeping baits tight to the rocks on the last of the incoming and first of the outgoing tide. Spanish mackerel, bluefish, and the occasional king mackerel push bait just outside Winyah Bay; cast small metal spoons or trolling Clark spoons behind planers along tide lines and bird activity. Inside the rivers, fish deeper bends and outside curves with cut mullet for red drum and black drum when midday heat pushes them off the flats.
Fall is the prime inshore season. Shrimp and mullet pour out of the creeks, and redfish, trout, and flounder stack up at ambush points. Work the edges of main bay channels, dock pilings, and feeder creek mouths on moving water. Soft-plastic paddletails in natural hues, MirrOlure-style hard baits, and live finger mullet excel. Flounder hunters do best slowly dragging mud minnows or finger mullet along the bottom around inlets, bulkheads, and sandy drop-offs near the bay’s outer edges.
In winter, concentrate on deeper holes in the Sampit, Waccamaw, and Black rivers where water temps are slightly warmer. Trout hold near sharp drops, bridge pilings, and channel edges—fish slow with small jig heads and soft plastics, giving them long pauses. Redfish often school tightly on shallow mud flats that warm quickly on sunny afternoons; sight-fish them with gold spoons or small weedless plastics on low, clear tides.
The rivers and blackwater backwaters offer a bonus freshwater fishery. Largemouth bass, crappie, and panfish thrive in back creeks and oxbows off the Waccamaw and Pee Dee. Target bass with spinnerbaits, Texas-rigged worms, and frogs around cypress knees and laydowns. For catfish, anchor on deep outside bends and present cut bait or live bream on the bottom.
Offshore and nearshore, anglers run from Georgetown Landing Marina to reefs and livebottom. Nearshore structures hold black sea bass, spadefish, and triggerfish; drop squid-tipped bottom rigs or jig smaller metals tight to the structure. Farther out, trollers chase king mackerel, mahi, wahoo, tuna, and sails along temperature breaks and weedlines, pulling a spread of skirted ballyhoo and diving plugs. Watch your sea surface temperature charts and focus on edges where cleaner, warmer water meets cooler green water.
Across the entire Georgetown area, tides rule. Plan trips around strong moving water, match bait size to the local forage, and adjust your depth and presentation to the salinity line—more salt and predators closer to Winyah Bay and the inlet, more freshwater species as you push upriver.
