Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 14:40 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

For fishing, stronger tides are often favourable as they cause stronger currents and more motion on the sea bed. The above tidal coefficients give us an indication of how strong the tides are compared to their average. A value over 90 indicates very strong tides, known as spring tides. A low value indicates weak tides, known as neap tides. The tidal coefficient can range from 20 to 120 with a mean value of 70. A higher number usually indicates better fishing.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Augusta

Augusta, Georgia fishing revolves around the Savannah River corridor and nearby Clarks Hill Lake, giving anglers a mix of current-driven river fishing and expansive reservoir structure. Understanding how seasons and water levels shift fish between the river, backwaters, and main lake is the key to steady success.

Spring brings some of the most consistent action. In March and April, largemouth bass move shallow in coves, pockets, and flooded shoreline cover on Clarks Hill and along calm river backwaters. Focus on protected pockets with pea gravel or hard clay and any visible wood. Soft plastics like Texas-rigged creature baits, weightless stick worms, and spinnerbaits shine in slightly stained water. On the Savannah River itself, fish current seams and slack-water eddies behind rock piles for spotted bass and the occasional smallmouth above town. Crappie stack on brush piles, bridge pilings, and docks; slow-troll small jigs or minnows 8–15 feet down, adjusting depth until you bump into suspended schools.

Summer patterns in Augusta push many species deeper or into current. On Clarks Hill, striped bass and hybrids school on main-lake humps, long tapering points, and at the mouths of major creeks. Use your electronics to locate bait, then present live blueback herring on downlines or freelines during low light, switching to downriggers or heavy spoons once the sun gets high. Largemouth bass relate to brush piles on ledges and creek-channel swings in 15–25 feet; deep-diving crankbaits, Carolina rigs, and football jigs dragged slowly along the bottom are reliable. In the Savannah River, night catfishing turns on around outside bends, deeper holes, and below shoalsβ€”anchor just upstream of a drop and fan-cast cut shad, chicken, or live bream into the hole.

Fall is prime time for chasing schooling fish. As water cools, baitfish push shallow into creek arms and up river. Watch for surface activity and diving birds on Clarks Hill; schooling stripers and hybrids can pop up anywhere on windy points, flats, and creek mouths. Keep a topwater walking bait, fluke, or small spoon ready for fast casting into breaking fish. Bass roam wind-blown banks and secondary pointsβ€”cover water quickly with lipless crankbaits, squarebills, and chatterbaits. In the river, work moving baits like spinnerbaits and small crankbaits along rock seams and laydowns where the current softens.

Winter fishing rewards anglers who slow down and trust their electronics. On the reservoir, stripers often hold deep over the river channel; vertically jigging heavy spoons or dropping live bait to marked arcs on sonar is productive. Bass hug steep bluff banks, channel swings, and rocky points. Use finesse jigs, shaky-head worms, and jerkbaits fished with long pauses. Crappie consolidate on deeper brush and standing timberβ€”hover over cover and present small jigs or minnows just above the fish.

Across seasons, pay attention to water clarity and flow. The Savannah River can stain quickly after rain; darker water calls for louder, bulkier lures and darker colors, while the clear water of Clarks Hill often favors natural hues and lighter line. Wind is your friend on the lakeβ€”it pushes bait onto points and banks and positions predators. Use electronics aggressively to find bait, brush, and contour changes, and be ready to shift between river current edges, backwater sloughs, and deep reservoir structure as conditions change.
