Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 14:23 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

For fishing, stronger tides are often favourable as they cause stronger currents and more motion on the sea bed. The above tidal coefficients give us an indication of how strong the tides are compared to their average. A value over 90 indicates very strong tides, known as spring tides. A low value indicates weak tides, known as neap tides. The tidal coefficient can range from 20 to 120 with a mean value of 70. A higher number usually indicates better fishing.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Easton

Easton, PA fishing is defined by its rivers. The Delaware River and Lehigh River meet in the heart of town, creating a mix of deep channels, rocky runs, and slower pools that hold smallmouth bass, walleye, catfish, and seasonal runs of American shad and striped bass. Add in nearby trout-stocked streams and small lakes and you have a compact, highly productive fishery that can be worked efficiently from shore, wading, or small craft like kayaks and jon boats.

From late March through early May, Easton’s most famous bite is the American shad run in the Delaware. Focus on current seams and deeper runs below the confluence, casting shad darts and flutter spoons quartering downstream. Use light fluorocarbon leaders and vary your sinker weight until the dart ticks bottom every few seconds. Early and late in the day often produce the steadiest action, especially on slightly stained water following a minor rise.

Smallmouth bass are the backbone of Easton’s warmwater fishing. In spring, target rocky shorelines, eddies, and the heads and tails of riffles with 3–4 inch soft-plastic tubes, ned rigs, and small suspending jerkbaits. As summer sets in and river levels drop, shift to early-morning and evening sessions. Work deeper mid-river rock piles and ledges with finesse jigs, drop-shot rigs, and topwaters like walking baits or poppers when light is low. A simple 1/8–1/4 oz tube on 8–10 lb line will catch fish all season in both the Delaware and lower Lehigh.

Walleye and striped bass patrol the deeper channels and current breaks around Easton. For walleye, concentrate on dusk and after dark, dragging jig-and-minnow style plastics or slowly crankbaiting along bottom contours. Striped bass and hybrids move through in spring and fall—cast medium-sized swimbaits, bucktail jigs, or lipless crankbaits near the confluence and along sweeping outside bends. Keep presentations tight to current edges where bait naturally funnels.

Catfish anglers will find consistent action around Easton, especially in summer. Channel catfish stack in slower holes, eddies, and along inside bends; flathead catfish prefer boulder fields, ledges, and submerged timber. Use slip-sinker rigs with cut bait or live sunfish, positioning baits just off the primary current. Night fishing is particularly effective; anchor above a hole and fan-cast several rods to cover different depth zones.

For family-friendly fishing, the Easton area offers ample panfish and carp opportunities in slower backwaters, canals, and nearby ponds. Simple float-and-worm setups take bluegill, pumpkinseed, and rock bass all summer. Carp roam quiet runs and slackwater behind islands; chumming lightly with canned corn and fishing hair rigs or simple single-corn hook baits will produce powerful runs on medium spinning gear.

Trout anglers should look to local stocked creeks and small lakes within a short drive of Easton. Early-season trout respond well to inline spinners, small spoons, and dough baits; as pressure increases, scale down to single salmon eggs, small nymphs under indicators, and 2–4 lb leaders in clear, low water. Focus on undercut banks, deeper pools, and riffle-to-pool transitions for holdover fish through late spring.

Across seasons, success around Easton comes from reading current and structure. Target seams, rock piles, depth changes, and confluences, adjust to water level and clarity, and carry a compact kit of jigs, soft plastics, and a few hardbaits. With mobile tactics and attention to river conditions, anglers can stay on quality fish nearly every month of the year.
