Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Tupelo
Fishing around Tupelo, Mississippi revolves around fertile small lakes, state park waters, and nearby river systems that consistently produce bass, crappie, catfish, and bream. Key local spots include Elvis Presley Lake just northeast of town, the larger Trace State Park Lake to the west, and the Tombigbee River and its oxbows within an easy drive. These waters feature classic North Mississippi structure—standing timber, creek channels, riprap, and flooded shoreline cover—that respond well to power and finesse tactics alike.
Seasonal patterns in the Tupelo area follow typical Mid-South cycles. In late winter and early spring, prespawn largemouth and spotted bass stage along points, channel swings, and the first drops out from spawning coves. Slow-roll spinnerbaits, medium-diving crankbaits in shad or craw colors, and jig-and-trailer combos excel. As water temps climb into the 60s, bass move shallow to spawning flats and protected pockets; weightless soft plastics, floating worms, and wacky-rigged stickbaits become go-to presentations in the clear pockets on Elvis Presley Lake and similar reservoirs.
Crappie fishing around Tupelo peaks in spring and fall. In March and April, look for fish moving from deep timber and channel edges to the backs of coves and along shallow brush lines. Long-pole jigging with small tube jigs, hair jigs, or minnows under a fixed cork is highly effective. Once summer sets in, crappie slide back to deeper brush piles, bridge pilings, and standing timber in 12–20 feet of water. Vertical presentations—holding a jig or minnow just above marked brush on electronics—put more slabs in the boat than blind casting.
Summer patterns call for early and late windows. At daybreak, work topwaters like buzzbaits, walking plugs, or hollow frogs around grass edges and laydowns for aggressive bass. As the sun gets high, shift to offshore structure: humps, submerged roadbeds, and channel drops. Carolina rigs, deep crankbaits, and big worms dragged slowly along the bottom are consistent producers, particularly on Trace State Park Lake where offshore structure is more defined. Night fishing for both bass and catfish can be excellent in hot weather—fish noisy topwaters tight to the bank for bass and soak cut bait or chicken liver on bottom rigs along channel edges for channel and blue catfish.
In fall, baitfish push into creeks and coves, and bass follow. Focus on windblown banks, secondary points, and the backs of creeks. Shad-pattern crankbaits, lipless cranks, and small swimbaits count as staples when schools of bass pin shad near the surface. Crappie suspend around mid-depth brush, and a slow-falling jig in natural shad or chartreuse patterns often outfishes live bait. Bluegill and redear remain active along riprap and around docks, readily biting small worms or crickets under a float.
Habitat and tactical tips are crucial on these relatively clear, pressured lakes. On bright, calm days, downsize line to 6–8 lb fluorocarbon for finesse bass techniques and 4–6 lb for crappie. Target visible cover—stumps, brush tops, and overhanging trees—but also watch electronics for submerged timber and man-made brush piles off main-lake points. In slightly stained water after a rain, switch to louder, bulkier lures and darker colors to help fish locate your bait.
On nearby river backwaters and oxbows, expect more current and stain. Here, heavier sinkers for bottom-rigged catfish and brighter crappie jigs pay off. Work eddies behind laydowns, outside bends, and current breaks for mixed bags of bass, catfish, and bream. Across the Tupelo area, success comes from matching seasonal movements, staying mobile until you contact active fish, and rotating between shallow cover and deeper structure as light and temperature change through the day.
