Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 13:57 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Albemarle

Albemarle, NC sits in the heart of one of North Carolinaโ€™s most productive freshwater systems, with Badin Lake, Lake Tillery, and the Yadkinโ€“Pee Dee River offering diverse fishing for bass, crappie, catfish, and stripers. These deep, rocky reservoirs fish differently than Piedmont ponds, so matching tactics to season and structure is key.

Spring is prime time on Badin and Tillery. Largemouth bass push shallow into protected coves, pea-gravel pockets, and secondary points. Work suspending jerkbaits, squarebill crankbaits, and Texas-rigged creature baits around visible cover and the first break off the bank. As water warms into the 60s, weightless soft stickbaits and floating worms shine around boat docks and laydowns. Crappie stack up on brush piles, bridge pilings, and shallow stake beds; 1/16โ€“1/32 oz hair or tube jigs suspended under a fixed or slip float catch numbers. Catfish bite well along warming flats at the mouths of creeks; fish fresh cut shad or bream on Carolina rigs just off the channel edge.

In summer, both lakes set up as classic offshore fisheries. Bass school on main-lake points, humps, and submerged roadbeds in 15โ€“30 feet, especially near the river channel. Use your electronics to find hard spots and bait, then rotate through deep-diving crankbaits, football jigs, and drop-shot rigs. Early and late, target shallow seawalls and riprap with buzzbaits, walking topwaters, and small swimbaits for a brief but explosive bite. Stripers and hybrid striped bass in Badin often relate to the main river channel; troll down-imaging-verified breaks with umbrella rigs or downlines rigged with live shad. Night fishing is extremely effective in summer for both bass and catfishโ€”anchor or drift over channel bends using fresh cut bait on 3-way or slip-sinker rigs.

Fall brings baitfish shallow, and fishing across the Albemarle area becomes highly patternable. Watch for surface schooling activity on wind-blown points and coves; kastmaster-style spoons, small flukes, and lipless crankbaits mimic young shad perfectly. Work medium-diving crankbaits and spinnerbaits along rocky banks, especially where wind pushes into the shoreline. Crappie migrate back to mid-depth brush in 10โ€“18 feet; vertical jigging directly over brush piles or slow-trolling multiple rods (long-lining) with small jigs is productive.

Through winter, focus on deeper water and stable structure. Bass frequently suspend along steep rock walls and main-lake bluffs on Badin; jerkbaits, underspins, and Damiki-style vertical presentations with small shad-profile plastics can be deadly when you match sonar-marked fish depth. Crappie form tight schools on the deepest brush and bridge pilingsโ€”use light line and subtle presentations. For blue catfish, target the deepest river-channel holes and ledges with big cut baits, paying attention to current seams created by dam releases.

Across the Albemarle region, success hinges on reading the lakeโ€™s structure and bait rather than simply bank-hopping. Invest time learning contours, key channel swings, and man-made brush using sonar and mapping. Downsize line and tackle in the clear water, especially on sunny, calm days, and adjust locations around power generation schedules and wind direction to stay near moving water and active fish.
