Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 14:33 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. The graph below shows you the 3 hourly weather progression over the next 7 days. Scroll the graph left or right to see more.

Fishing Overview Chickasha

Fishing in Chickasha, Oklahoma revolves around Lake Chickasha and a network of smaller city lakes, farm ponds, and watershed impoundments that hold strong populations of largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish. These waters are classic central Oklahoma fisheries: stained to lightly turbid most of the year, with a mix of shallow coves, windblown shorelines, brush, and rock that keep fish shallow and accessible. Bank anglers and small-boat fishermen both do well here, especially when they focus on wind direction, water clarity, and seasonal movements.

Seasonal patterns around Chickasha follow a predictable Great Plains rhythm. In late winter and early spring, pre-spawn bass and crappie stack along creek channels, riprap, and the first significant dropoffs. Jigs and small soft plastics work well for bass, while minnows or small tube jigs vertical-dropped around brush are hard to beat for crappie. As water temperatures push into the 60s, both species head shallow to spawning pockets; pitching weightless stickbaits, small creature baits, or wacky-rigged worms around flooded brush and laydowns produces consistent bites.

Summer pushes much of the action to low-light periods on Chickasha-area waters. At first and last light, bass cruise shallow flats and points, making topwaters, buzzbaits, and squarebill crankbaits extremely effective. Once the sun gets high, the better fish slide to deeper brush piles, channel swings, and riprap close to deeper water. Slow-rolling a Texas-rigged worm, Carolina rig, or football jig along those edges often outperforms faster presentations. Catfishing picks up as the water warms; channel and blue catfish in the Chickasha area respond well to cut shad, punch baits, and prepared stink baits set on slip-sinker rigs along channel edges, windblown banks, and near inflowing water.

Fall may be the most overlooked season. As shad and other baitfish move into creeks and coves, bass and crappie follow, feeding heavily before winter. Cover water with medium-diving crankbaits, spinnerbaits, or swim jigs on windblown points, then slow down with jigs once you find a concentration of fish. Crappie relate to brush and standing timber again, but often suspend a bit higher in the water column, so adjust depth frequently until you tick the top of the school.

Habitat and tactical tips for Chickasha fishing focus on reading small-reservoir structure. Wind is your ally: slightly stained, windblown banks concentrate active fish and mask line and boat noise. Target any combination of cover and contour—points with brush, channel bends with rock, or dock edges near deeper water. In these relatively shallow, nutrient-rich lakes, downsizing line to 8–12 lb fluorocarbon for bass and 4–6 lb for crappie can noticeably increase bites, especially during calm, sunny conditions.

For panfish, simple rigs perform best. A small float, split shot, and size 6–8 hook tipped with worms or crickets will catch bluegill and redear sunfish around any visible cover: cattails, laydowns, rocks, or boat ramps. Carp and freshwater drum are common bonus catches on corn, dough baits, or nightcrawlers fished on the bottom, particularly near inflow areas after rains. Whether you’re fishing from shore or a small jon boat, keeping your presentations tight to cover, staying mobile, and adapting to water color will maximize success across Chickasha’s diverse local waters.
