Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Paris, Texas fishing revolves around productive small and midsize reservoirs like Lake Crook on the north side of town and larger Pat Mayse Lake just northeast of Paris. These lakes, along with farm ponds and local creeks, offer a mix of shallow cover, standing timber, riprap, and offshore structure that hold fish through all four seasons. Largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish are the backbone of the local fishery, with sand bass and panfish providing steady action whenever conditions change.
Seasonal patterns in the Paris area follow typical Northeast Texas timing. In late winter and early spring, focus on staging areas just off shallow coves—secondary points, channel swings, and the first drops out from the bank. Slow-rolled spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits, and suspending jerkbaits produce bass when water is still cool. As water temps climb into the 60s, bass and sunfish move into protected pockets and flooded brush to spawn. Sight-fishing with soft plastics and pitching jigs to visible cover is especially effective in coves on the upper ends of Lake Crook and Pat Mayse.
By summer, bass and catfish slide deeper. Look for offshore humps, roadbeds, and main-lake points, particularly near the old creek channels.
