Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 13:46 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Weatherford

Fishing in Weatherford, Texas is dominated by Lake Weatherford, a modest-sized reservoir that fishes big thanks to diverse habitat and solid stocking history. Located just west of Fort Worth, the lake offers reliable action for largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, hybrid striped bass, and panfish from both boat and shore.

Seasonal patterns are key on Lake Weatherford. In late winter and early spring, crappie and bass stage along channel edges, bridge pilings, and deeper brush. Slow-rolled jigs, minnows, and downsized soft plastics excel during this pre-spawn window. As water warms into spring, both bass and crappie push shallow into protected coves, flooded brush, and riprap. Spinnerbaits, squarebill crankbaits, wacky-rigged worms, and 1/16โ€“1/8 oz crappie jigs in natural shad or chartreuse patterns are productive.

Summer fishing centers on offshore structure and low-light periods. Largemouth and spotted bass often stack on points, humps, and creek-channel bends; deep-diving crankbaits, Carolina rigs, and dropshots catch fish when the sun is high. Dawn and dusk are prime for topwater walkers and poppers over shallow flats and along weed edges. Hybrid stripers and white bass school over open water chasing shadโ€”watch for surface activity and use slabs, spoons, or small swimbaits vertically under bait balls.

Fall brings a strong shad-driven bite. Bass, hybrids, and white bass roam wind-blown banks and mid-lake flats. Match the hatch with shad-pattern crankbaits, lipless baits, and 3โ€“4 inch swimbaits. Crappie slide back to mid-depth brush and docks, where vertical jigging or tight-lining minnows works well. As winter sets in, fish generally move deeper; slow presentations, smaller profiles, and fishing directly over brushpiles, rock, or drop-offs with electronics become more important.

The lake features a mix of habitat types: riprap along the dam and bridge areas, standing timber, brushpiles, marina docks, and gentle sloping banks. Bass anglers do well targeting riprap with crankbaits and jigs, especially when wind is pushing bait against the rocks. Brush and timber are crappie magnets; a 10โ€“12 foot jigging rod, light line (4โ€“8 lb test), and small tube or marabou jigs let you feel subtle bites tight to cover.

Catfish anglers find consistent channel and blue cat action using punch bait, cut shad, or chicken liver on slip rigs around creek channels, points, and wind-blown shorelines. Anchoring upwind and fan-casting baits increases coverage. For larger blues and flatheads, step up to heavier tackle and use fresh cut bait or live bait around deeper structure, particularly at night or during low-light conditions.

For bank fishermen, focus on parks, public shoreline, fishing piers, and riprap access to reach productive water without a boat. Light spinning gear handles crappie and panfish, while medium-power combos cover bass and smaller catfish. Boat anglers should lean on electronics to locate bait, contour changes, and submerged brush, then work baits methodically at the depth where fish are holding.

  • Follow seasonal movements: shallow in spring/fall, deeper in summer/winter.
  • Key in on wind-blown banks, points, and visible cover for active fish.
  • Match lure size and color to shad and local forage for more bites.
  • Use slower, more precise presentations in cold or clear water.

With year-round patterns and multiple target species, Lake Weatherford gives anglers in and around Weatherford a versatile, productive fishery just minutes from town.
