Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Brigham City
Fishing near Brigham City, Utah is dominated by Willard Bay and the Bear River system, with additional opportunities in nearby mountain reservoirs. This mix of shallow, fertile warmwater habitat and colder upland lakes gives anglers options for walleye, wiper, catfish, trout, and panfish within a short drive of town.
Seasonal patterns at Willard Bay drive most fishing strategies. In early spring, as water temperatures creep into the 50s, walleye move shallow along rocky shorelines, dikes, and canal mouths to feed and spawn. This is a prime time for casting crankbaits and jigs from shore or slowly trolling shallow-running plugs. By late spring and early summer, wiper and channel catfish become highly active, roaming open water and structure edges; trolling crankbaits or drifting bait along the dike lines produces well. Summer brings stable action at dawn, dusk, and at night when boat traffic drops and predators push baitfish shallow. In fall, cooling water triggers another strong bite for walleye, wiper, and catfish, often deeper along drop-offs and submerged structure.
The Bear River Bird Refuge canals and adjacent sloughs offer slower-moving water and excellent habitat for carp, catfish, bullheads, and the occasional bass or panfish. These backwaters fish best from late spring through early fall when vegetation and insect life peak. Nearby mountain reservoirs and streams to the east and north provide coolwater options for rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout, especially in summer when lowland waters warm up.
Habitat and location tips are critical on Willard Bay. Focus on:
- Dike rocks and riprap: Key for spring and fall walleye; work lures parallel to the rocks.
- Canal mouths and inflows: Attract wiper, walleye, and catfish whenever current is present and clarity is decent.
- Submerged humps and breaklines: Use electronics to find subtle depth changes where baitfish stack.
- Shallow flats near deeper water: Prime areas at low light for wiper busting shad and for cruising cats.
Effective techniques vary by species. For walleye, use 1/8–1/4 oz jigs tipped with soft-plastic minnows or worms, fished slowly just off bottom, or troll crankbaits at 1.5–2 mph along contours. Wiper respond to fast-moving presentations: troll shad-style crankbaits or cast swimbaits and spoons to surface boils, keeping tackle stout and drags set properly. Channel catfish are reliably taken with cut bait, shrimp, or nightcrawlers fished on a simple slip-sinker rig; target channel edges, old creek beds, and windblown banks that concentrate scent and food.
Panfish such as bluegill, crappie, and perch are best targeted around submerged brush, docks, and weed edges using small jigs or bait under a float. In nearby trout waters, downsized spinners, spoons, and natural-colored flies or bait work well; focus on inlets, points, and any structure that breaks current or wind-driven chop.
Year-round, anglers around Brigham City are rewarded by paying close attention to water temperature, wind direction, and baitfish activity. Move until you locate active fish, refine your depth and speed, and stay flexible with lure selection to match the conditions on these productive northern Utah fisheries.
