Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Ogden
Fishing in Ogden, Utah centers around a tight cluster of productive waters: the Weber River, Ogden River, Pineview Reservoir, Willard Bay, and several nearby mountain lakes. This mix of cold rivers and warm reservoirs lets local anglers switch quickly from fly fishing for trout to trolling and bait fishing for walleye, crappie, and catfish.
Seasonal patterns drive success around Ogden. Spring runoff swells the Weber and Ogden rivers; focus on softer edges, inside bends, and back eddies where brown and rainbow trout slide out of the heavy current. High, off-color flows call for larger nymphs and streamers in darker colors. As flows drop and clear in early summer, smaller nymphs and dry–dropper rigs shine, especially early and late in the day.
Summer brings consistent trout action in the mornings and evenings on both rivers. Terrestrials—hoppers, ants, and beetles—are key from July into September, fished tight to grassy banks and undercuts. Midday, nymphing deep runs with small mayfly and caddis patterns or drifting natural baits can keep rods bent. Fall is prime time on the Weber and Ogden for aggressive pre-spawn browns; larger streamers in olive, black, and white worked along cutbanks and structure move some of the heaviest fish of the year.
Pineview Reservoir just east of Ogden is a multi-species hub. Panfish (bluegill, perch, and crappie) push shallow in late spring; target submerged brush, docks, and weed edges with small jigs, tube baits, and pieces of nightcrawler under a slip bobber. Tiger muskie are the apex predator here—focus on points, weed lines, and creek mouths with large swimbaits, jerkbaits, and oversized spinnerbaits at low light. Summer boat traffic can be heavy; dawn, dusk, and weekday sessions are more productive and easier to fish methodically.
Willard Bay west of Ogden is known for wiper, walleye, and crappie. In spring, troll crankbaits and crawler harnesses along the dike lines and subtle breaks while watching your sonar for bait clouds and roaming schools. As water warms, wipers often push shad to the surface; keep a medium spinning rod rigged with casting spoons or small shad-imitating plugs to fire into surface feeds quickly. For walleye, work bottom-oriented presentations—bottom bouncers, jig-and-crawler, or blade baits—along contours and rock transitions.
Ogden’s mountain streams and small lakes hold a mix of brook, cutthroat, and rainbow trout. These are tight quarters where accuracy matters more than distance. Short rods, light leaders, and simple rigs—single dry flies, small spinners, or natural baits drifted through plunge pools—cover most situations. Move steadily, hitting the prime lies: the head and tail of each pool, seams along boulders, and undercut banks.
Across the Ogden area, success comes from matching tactics to water type: precise wading and stealthy approaches on the rivers, systematic trolling and sonar use on the reservoirs, and mobility to stay on active fish. Plan around early and late windows, adjust lure or fly size to water clarity, and let the region’s diverse fisheries dictate your approach on any given day.
