Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Fond du Lac
Fond du Lac fishing centers on the south shore of Lake Winnebago, giving anglers direct access to one of Wisconsin’s most productive and diverse fisheries. This sprawling natural lake, along with connected rivers and nearby small waters, supports consistent action for walleye, white bass, panfish, catfish and even giant lake sturgeon. Launch access, shoreline spots and seasonal fish movements all converge around Fond du Lac, making it a practical home base for anglers.
Spring on Lake Winnebago near Fond du Lac is walleye and white bass time. As ice pulls off, target pre-spawn walleyes along the south-end reefs, rocky points and shoreline breaks. Jig-and-minnow combinations, hair jigs and slowly worked plastics shine in the cold water. As temperatures climb, pull crankbaits or slow-death rigs across 6–12 feet of water, especially along subtle contour changes. White bass run in huge schools; cast small inline spinners, spoons or 2-inch soft plastics when you mark bait and arcs on electronics, or when terns are diving.
Early summer brings a strong multi-species bite close to Fond du Lac. Weedbeds and emerging cabbage near the south shore hold largemouth bass, northern pike, panfish and the occasional muskie. Work the outside weed edge with spinnerbaits, swim jigs and chatterbaits for bass and pike; switch to slip bobbers with leeches or nightcrawlers to pick off bluegills, perch and crappies. On calm days, drifting with live bait rigs and crawlers over main-lake points is a reliable pattern for eating-size walleyes. Look for pods of fish relating to transitions where rock meets mud.
Mid to late summer, structure and low-light windows are key. Walleyes slide deeper or go on the prowl at dawn, dusk and after dark. Troll crankbaits on long lines or leadcore over 15–25 feet, using GPS to follow key contours off the south shore. Smallmouth bass stack on rock piles and reefs; tubes, Ned rigs and dropshot rigs are dependable when fished slowly along the bottom. Catfish and freshwater drum roam soft-bottom flats—anchor up-current of subtle depressions and fish cut bait or stinkbait on slip-sinker rigs.
Fall concentrates fish and offers some of the year’s best trophy potential. Cooling water pushes walleyes and smallmouths back shallower. Focus on windswept points, reefs and rock bars with jig-and-minnow or jig-and-plastic presentations. Big northern pike and muskie roam the last remaining green weeds and breaklines; large bucktails, jerkbaits and soft plastics become prime tools. Perch and bluegills stack on weed edges and rock-to-mud transitions, where small jigs tipped with plastics or live bait excel.
Winter ice fishing on Lake Winnebago off Fond du Lac is a major draw. Once safe ice sets up, anglers spread across the basin targeting walleyes, white bass and perch. Tip-ups rigged with shiners or rosies are set along travel routes, while jigging spoons, rattle baits and tungsten jigs work directly below the hole. Mobility is critical: drill multiple holes over small depth changes until you connect with a school. For panfish, downsize to subtle jigs and light line, especially on high-pressure days.
Across seasons, success around Fond du Lac comes from reading wind, structure and bait. Wind-blown shorelines and reefs often outproduce calm areas, particularly for walleye and smallmouth bass. Good electronics help you stay on contour edges, isolated rock and schools of baitfish. Keep presentations simple but sharp—fresh live bait, well-tuned crankbaits and properly sized fluorocarbon leaders all make a noticeable difference in this highly pressured, yet consistently productive fishery.

Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes. We found 2 beaches and bays in this area.
