How do you fellow fishermen deal with flies when filleting your fish outdoors?

As soon as I take my fish out of the ice bin, I'm overrun by flies and wasps in those warm summer months.

You probably wouldn't have the problem when filleting directly at sea.
But I quite like to bury all fish guts and frames in my garden as fertilizer.

First there is no fly in sight and then there are billions at the first smell of fish.
Really quite annoying. But I guess there is nothing that can be done.

Maybe filleting at night? What do you guys reckon?

B) I built a fillet table in my back yard and have never had an issue with the bugs......but if I did I would go to the sporting goods shop and buy a canopy (easy up) made of mesh. they cost around $50 - $75 in the U.S.depending on how big and quality. They normally don't have a floor like a tent so you could stake the bottoms down in case its windy, and not worry about spilling guts and stuff on the floor. Just put a small table inside you can fillet on and bring your fish in when your ready. You'll have very few flies. I usually have a hole in the table and have a plastic trash can for the guts so we can use them as fertilizer in the garden.You can even run a water hose over the table to help
move the leftover parts and guts (mine is placed over concrete so it drains well). Even a small tent could do the job but you would have to sit while working and find a way to remove the floor for obvious reasons. hope this helps you My friend!!!

Thats is a good idea. I will have a look at our camping store and see if they got such a canopy. It's only really a problem during the hot summer months here.

Last time I moved inside and started filleting some of the fish in the kitchen.
Unfortunately the whole kitchen smelled like fish for a whole week afterwards

As soon as I have something only slightly smelly outside I'm overrun by flies in no time. Wonder where they all come from so quickly, cause normally I don't see a single fly anywhere.
