How accurate do you all find the Farmer’s Almanac as it relates to optimum fishing times? Fishingreminder accuracy? Thank You.

FA compared to FR ?

FA started in the year 1818. It is based on zodiac signs. They state - Farmers’ Almanac’s Fishing Calendar is based on the phase of the moon, the zodiac sign the moon is in, and experience - It cost $12 per YEAR and only relates to the United States.

Fishing Reminder has a free and paid version. The paid version is a one off cost and I think it is about $6 or $7 and that is for life. As long as you keep the same email (Gmail) then you have it...There are no annual fees. You don't pay again each year. FR is based on actual scientific observations over thousands of years. FR combines scientifically sound theories and observations including the solunar theory and Maori fishing charts, tides, moon and sun etc, etc. Fishing Reminder relates to the entire world no matter where you are.

I caught my first fish 52 years ago. I am yet to see any fish refuse to eat a prawn just because it was born a Leo or refuse to take a lure because its star sign is Libra !!!

We get questions about accuracy every once in while ?

Both the Farmers Almanac and FR use the moon and sun to predict good feeding times.
The theory is that everything in nature revolves around the natural rhythms of sun and moon.
For example ocean tides are caused by the moon. Actually all bodies of water including fresh water are effected by this.
When tides change and current flows, food moves around and predators are feeding more readily.

Generally all life is affected by the moon and sun including plant life.
The moon often determines when insects hatch or small baitfish are on the move in lakes and rivers.
That's why the fishing times work just as well in freshwater as in saltwater situations.

Most people know that sunrise and sunset are good times to go fishing. And while this is often true, the moon has an even stronger influence than the sun. If both sun and moon are combined to predict the best feeding times you get the best of both worlds. That's why the theory behind this is called Solunar Theory. Sol for sun and lunar for moon.

I developed fishingreminder back in 2010 and from my experience the predictions are very accurate. I do fish a lot and I hardly bother to go fishing outside of the bite times.
I wanted to create a website that is easy to use and can basically calculate fishing times for anywhere in the world and remind people when it's good fishing at their selected location.
It has been working really well and most people think it's very accurate.

Every now and then we get a comment that the fishing times are bullshit. But it's nothing compared to all the positive feedback we get. The negative feedback usually comes from people expecting to catch a fish in their bathtub during the best fishing times.
Basically if you know what you're doing and the fish are there than the fishing times are a great help.
If you don't know what you're doing and you use the wrong bait, lures or there are no fish present you won't catch anything, even during the best fishing times.

I agree on the sun and moon very much effects it but I am not sure. The sun and moon are not the same as different parts of our nation. I have caught fish on the report of bad fishing today and I have had hardly any luck when it said good fishing day. I have fished for many years and go fishing when I can no matter what the conditions are.

All depends how much time and patience you got I guess.
I get bored easily so I just fish when I got the best chances and try to maximize my time out. I fish a lot by the way as there are two major and two minor feeding times each day ?The fishing times work great for me. Sometimes it's like clockwork when the bite comes on and shuts off again after two hours.
I'm German, so I guess I like efficiency, LOL
But yeah I hear that a lot from people. They fish whenever they can, no matter what. And that's okay. It's fishing, everyone has different expectations.

You are so right but as I said those times don't always work for me. But like you I go fishing when I can. I am 80 years old and through the years I guess I have seen it all. I guess I will go fishing as long as the old body holds out.

It does not matter what the rating is...you still have to be where the fish are, at the right time and use the right bait. However, you will have more chance of catching fish during the major and minor times.

The original question was asking how Fishing Reminder compares to Farmers Almanac...Well there is no comparison. FR is based on science and scientific observations. FR gives specific times for any location anywhere in the world.

FA does not even give times. So the question is flawed to start with. FA only gives a whole of day rating. FA is based on voodoo, based on the zodiac star signs. Since the zodiac divides the year into 12 the best it can hope for is 1/12 of a year rating. Even though FA gives whole of day rating, their system does not allow for a day rating, let alone specific times. The FA only relates to the United States...There is no comparison to make.

Push up 80 some of the best days in my life we're just out with family and or friends no matter if you do good or strike out it's the memorys. Good fishing every day.

Mark, I have some really old antique lures. I got the bright idea to clean them and used a soak in dishwashing detergent. They lost all their color and are a milky white. Any idea how to restore them.

Sea shells do the same thing if soaked in detergent. High gloss clear enamel fixes sea shells. Just a small spray can. Before you spray them try dipping them in clean fresh water. If the colour comes back in the water then the enamel should work...Of course, make sure they are completely dry before you spray them

The water trick is an old carpenters thing. Wet the wood and you will see what the finished product will look like. Then you know if stain is needed before putting on the clear coat. The water will also make any fibers stand up for final sanding.

The lures have probably been finished in an epoxy paint. The gloss clear enamel should be fine. But if you have any concerns you could use a clear coat sealant first. Your local tackle shop will have it in a small amount. I suggest the tackle shop because I already know the sealant bonds to epoxy. It is the sealant used to seal thread wraps and bindings on fishing rods. Before the the epoxy is applied the thread lashings are sealed which stops the epoxy soaking into the thread which stops the thread lifting and stops air bubbles. It is white and when it dries it is crystal clear. You probably don't need a sealant, just letting you know it is there if you feel it is needed.
