Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 10:5 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

Tide Coefficient at 06:54 am is 89

For fishing, stronger tides are often favourable as they cause stronger currents and more motion on the sea bed. The above tidal coefficients give us an indication of how strong the tides are compared to their average. A value over 90 indicates very strong tides, known as spring tides. A low value indicates weak tides, known as neap tides. The tidal coefficient can range from 20 to 120 with a mean value of 70. A higher number usually indicates better fishing.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Mandurah

Mandurah fishing revolves around a diverse mix of estuary, beach and offshore grounds that produce fish year-round if you match your tactics to the season. The Peel-Harvey Estuary, Dawesville Cut and the nearshore reefs out from Mandurah offer easy access and plenty of options for both land-based and boat anglers.

Summer is prime time in the Mandurah Estuary for yellowfin whiting, blue swimmer crabs and herring. Work the shallow sand flats early and late with small surface lures and lightly weighted worms or prawns for whiting; keep moving until you find active schools. Crabbing is best on warm, calm days over clean sand in 1–3 m of water; drop nets along depth changes and channels, then rotate through them steadily. Around the Dawesville Cut, tailor and herring respond well to metal slices and small pilchard baits cast into the current lines as the tide pushes hard.

Through autumn, black bream fishing improves in the canals and upriver reaches. Focus on rock walls, pontoons and bridge pylons with lightly weighted prawns, mussel or crab, or soft plastics worked slowly close to structure. Flathead sit along drop-offs and sandy edges; cast small minnow lures or prawn imitations and hop them along the bottom. In the same period, offshore reefs start to fire for pink snapper and dhufish, especially on the 5-Fathom and 7-Fathom Banks. Dawn and dusk sessions with baits of squid or mulies, dropped right on the structure with minimal lead, are consistently productive.

Winter brings cooler water and often fewer boats, but Mandurah still fishes well. Inside the estuary, bream hold deeper along rock and timber snags; use lighter leaders and smaller presentations, keeping your lure or bait in the strike zone longer. Tailor and herring patrol the beaches and groynes; metal slices, stickbaits and ganged pilchards cast into whitewater gutters are effective. Offshore, snapper school up on the inshore reefs after storms. Fish big baits in the dirty water lines and look for bait balls on the sounder; anchor and berley to draw fish under the boat, or drift slowly to cover ground.

Spring often delivers the most consistent mixed fishing. The estuary starts to warm, triggering whiting and early crabs on the flats, while squid move onto weed beds along the coast. Target squid with bright jigs over broken sand-and-weed ground, using a slow lift-and-drop retrieve. On the reefs, dhufish, baldchin groper and breaksea cod hold tight to hard structure; use your sounder to locate isolated lumps and fish vertical jigs or big bait rigs with enough weight to stay near the bottom without snagging constantly.

Mandurah fishing tactics are all about reading water and moving until you find life. In the estuary, look for bait flicking, clear water edges and tidal flow; on the beaches, identify defined gutters and sandbanks; offshore, trust your sounder, not old GPS marks. Downsizing leaders and weights in clear conditions draws more bites, while slightly heavier gear helps when fishing reefy country for dhufish and snapper. Mix lures and baits, vary retrieve speeds, and be prepared to shift spots quickly to stay on active fish around Mandurah.

The Best Fishing Spots around Mandurah

Peel Inlet

A vast, shallow estuarine lagoon famous for blue swimmer crabs in summer, with sand whiting, flathead, and yellowfin whiting over the flats, plus bream and the odd mulloway along deeper channels; drifting or wading the weed lines and flats near Mandurah Estuary and Harvey Estuary is a proven approach.

Harvey Estuary

The southern arm of the system offers expansive flats and channels for blue swimmer crabs, yellowfin whiting, and flathead in the warmer months, with bream tight to structure and mulloway moving through deeper water; drifting the banks and channel edges between Peel Inlet and Dawesville Channel is a staple tactic.

Falcon Bay

A surf‑accessible bay south of town that produces tailor on evening sea breezes, herring most of the year, and the autumn salmon run close to shore; gutters and reef pockets also hold sand whiting and tarwhine, with small boats working the inshore reefs toward Falcon and Avalon for squid and skippy.

Murray River

Flowing into the estuary at Mandurah, the lower Murray mixes brackish and fresh to hold bream, flathead, tailor, and mulloway near the mouth, shifting to bream and perch upstream; fish snags, bends, and drop‑offs, and consider tide changes that push bait toward Peel Inlet.

Serpentine River

A quieter tributary offering bream along timbered banks, with seasonal tailor and flathead closer to the estuary influence; small craft and kayaks excel at reaching shaded snags and bends, and nearby flats toward Peel Inlet can produce whiting on surface lures in summer.

Madora Bay

A long beach and nearshore bay north of central Mandurah known for tailor on evening winds, herring and sand whiting along the shore break, and occasional salmon schools in autumn; look for forming gutters, and if baitfish are present consider checking Silver Sands or San Remo nearby.

Five Fathom Bank

This offshore sand and reef bank west of Mandurah is a productive ground for pink snapper, dhufish, skippy, samsonfish, and pelagics when conditions are suitable; boats work the contours, pressure edges, and bait schools, often pairing trips with inshore stops around Dawesville Channel on the run home.

If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes.
