A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing in and around Youngstown, Ohio is built around the Mahoning River system, several reclaimed strip-pit lakes, and easy access to nearby reservoirs like Mosquito Creek and Berlin Lake. Anglers can find productive water within minutes of downtown, from small public ponds to big open reservoirs that consistently give up trophy-class bass, walleye, catfish, and panfish.
Seasonal patterns drive catches around Youngstown. In early spring, as ice disappears from local lakes and the Mahoning River begins to warm, crappie, bluegill, and perch push into shallow coves, riprap shorelines, and inflowing creeks. Slow presentations with small jigs, minnows, or wax worms under fixed or slip floats excel in these cool-water periods. Largemouth and smallmouth bass stage just off these areas, hitting suspending jerkbaits, compact jigs, and slowly worked soft plastics along drop-offs and rocky transitions.
