Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 13:55 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

For fishing, stronger tides are often favourable as they cause stronger currents and more motion on the sea bed. The above tidal coefficients give us an indication of how strong the tides are compared to their average. A value over 90 indicates very strong tides, known as spring tides. A low value indicates weak tides, known as neap tides. The tidal coefficient can range from 20 to 120 with a mean value of 70. A higher number usually indicates better fishing.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. The graph below shows you the 3 hourly weather progression over the next 7 days. Scroll the graph left or right to see more.

Fishing Overview Fort Pierce

Fishing in Fort Pierce centers around a few key areas: the Fort Pierce Inlet, the Indian River Lagoon, the nearshore beaches, and the offshore reefs and ledges. Each zone fishes differently through the year, so tailoring your approach to the season and habitat is crucial.

Spring brings a surge of bait along the beaches and into the inlet. Snook, tarpon, and jacks stack up in the Fort Pierce Inlet and around bridge pilings. Work swimbaits, jerkbaits, or live pilchards on medium spinning tackle at dawn, dusk, and on strong tide changes. On calmer days, run just off the beach for cobia, king mackerel, and tarpon shadowing bait pods; slow-troll live baits or cast bucktail jigs to surface activity.

Summer in Fort Pierce is prime time for night fishing and offshore runs. Inshore, target big snook along the South Causeway and North Causeway bridges using live mullet or croakers fished tight to the shadow lines. In the Indian River Lagoon, hit grass flats and mangrove edges early with soft plastics and topwater plugs for trout and redfish, then slide deeper as the sun climbs. Offshore, run east to the 60–200 foot depths for mahi-mahi, sailfish, kingfish, and blackfin tuna. Troll a spread of small ballyhoo and skirted lures along color changes, weedlines, and current edges; keep a spinning rod ready with a jig or live bait for dolphin that show behind the boat.

Fall is a transition period with strong bait runs along the coast. Spanish mackerel, bluefish, and tarpon work the beach, making surf fishing highly productive. Use long spinning outfits with 1–3 oz spoons or live baits on fish-finder rigs for pompano, whiting, and the occasional snook right in the wash. Inside the inlet, drifting live baits near rocks and channel edges produces mangrove snapper, sheepshead, and drum.

Winter cools the water and concentrates fish in deeper holes and around structure. Work the Indian River’s deeper channels, docks, and spoil islands with shrimp-tipped jigs for trout, black drum, and sheepshead. Light tackle and subtle presentations pay off in the clearer, cooler water. Offshore, focus on bottom fishing: Fort Pierce has a network of natural and artificial reefs that hold snapper, grouper, triggerfish, and amberjack. Use 40–80 lb class gear, fish cut baits or live pinfish near the bottom, and pay attention to your sonar to stay on productive structure.

Across all seasons, success in Fort Pierce hinges on reading tide and current, matching bait size to local forage, and fishing tight to structure. The inlet rocks, bridge pilings, channel markers, and dock lines are consistent producers. Keep multiple setups ready—from light inshore spinning rods to heavy bottom rigs and offshore trolling outfits—so you can quickly adapt to conditions and maximize what Fort Pierce’s diverse fisheries have to offer.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes. We found 4 beaches and bays in this area.

Middle Cove Beach - 8.43212574542km , Herman Bay - 14.64417105594km , Walton Rocks Beach - 15.11019257809km , Herman's Bay Beach - 17.03427163278km

Harbours and Marinas can often times be productive fishing spots for land based fishing as their sheltered environment attracts a wide variety of bait fish. Similar to river mouths, harbour entrances are also great places to fish as lots of fish will move in and out with the rising and falling tides. There are 3 main harbours in this area.
