Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Fort Worth
Fort Worth fishing centers on productive reservoirs like Lake Worth, Eagle Mountain Lake, Benbrook Lake, and nearby Lake Arlington, plus the Trinity River and a network of heavily stocked urban ponds. Anglers find dependable action close to town, with solid bass, crappie, and catfish populations and steady stocking programs that keep shore fishing worthwhile for beginners and experts.
Seasonal patterns drive success around Fort Worth. In late winter and early spring, pre-spawn largemouth bass stage on main-lake points, channel bends, and first drops outside shallow flats. As water warms into the 60s, bass push into coves, marinas, and flooded brush to spawn. Pitch soft plastics, jigs, and weightless stickbaits to visible cover, boat docks, and riprap. Post-spawn, work your way back out toward secondary points with crankbaits and Carolina rigs, then shift to deeper ledges, humps, and channel swings by early summer.
Summer through early fall, Fort Worth bass often school on offshore structure and chase shad in open water. Watching for surface activity and birds can lead you to schooling white bass and hybrid stripers. Keep a box of small spoons, tail-spinners, and swimbaits tied on and ready to cast into breaking fish. Early and late in the day, fish topwater walkers and poppers along riprap, marina walls, and shaded bank lines. When the sun gets high, slow down with Texas-rigged worms in timber pockets, bridge pilings, and brush piles.
Crappie are a major draw on Eagle Mountain, Benbrook, and Lake Arlington. In spring, target shallow flooded buck brush, cattails, and docks with small tube jigs or minnows under a slip float. As water temperatures climb, crappie move to deeper brush piles, bridge columns, and submerged timber in 12–25 feet. Electronics help, but from shore you can still reach bridge pilings, fishing piers, and marina docks that hold consistent fish.
Fort Worth is also catfish country. Blue and channel catfish stack along river channels, windblown points, and areas where creek arms dump into the main lake. In warmer months, drift cut shad, stink bait, or punch bait across flats and gentle drops. At night, anchor near ledges or riprap, putting multiple rods at different depths. The Trinity River below downtown, and tailrace areas below dams, can be especially productive for catfish and freshwater drum using simple slip-sinker rigs.
Urban community lakes and city parks around Fort Worth are regularly stocked, providing easy bank access. These small waters often hold bluegill, catfish, and seasonally stocked rainbow trout. Use light spinning tackle, small hooks, and simple rigs: worms or prepared baits for catfish and sunfish, and dough baits, corn, or small spinners for trout. Focus on corners of ponds, inflow pipes, and any visible structure like culverts, rock edges, and fishing piers.
Year-round, success in Fort Worth comes from matching your approach to the season and habitat. Pay attention to water temperature, wind direction, and baitfish presence, and keep your tactics flexible—switching between power fishing and slower finesse presentations as conditions and pressure change.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes.
