Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Junction City
Fishing in Junction City, Oregon revolves around the Willamette River system and nearby lakes and sloughs that give anglers a wide range of options within a short drive. Junction City sits between Eugene and Corvallis, putting you close to the mainstem Willamette, the Long Tom River, Fern Ridge Reservoir, and a network of smaller creeks and ponds that collectively offer trout, bass, panfish, and seasonal salmon and steelhead opportunities.
From late winter through spring, Junction City anglers look toward the Willamette River and its tributaries for trout, steelhead, and chinook salmon. Cold, higher flows push fish into softer current seams and behind structure. Focus on slow inside bends, eddies behind mid-river boulders, and deeper runs below riffles. Drift fishing with natural baits, side-drifting soft beads, or running 3β5 inch soft plastics under a float are productive for steelhead. For trout, light spinning tackle with small spinners, spoons, or 2β4 pound test and single salmon eggs or worms works well in clear water.
By late spring and throughout summer, warmwater fishing really turns on around Junction City. Fern Ridge Reservoir, west of town off Highway 99, is a key destination for largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish. Early and late in the day, work shallow weed edges, flooded brush, and timber with topwater frogs, buzzbaits, and weightless soft plastics for largemouth. As the sun gets higher, back off slightly deeper and probe drop-offs and channel swings with Texas-rigged worms, jigs, and crankbaits. For crappie and bluegill, downsize to 1/32β1/16 oz jigs tipped with small plastics or worms, and suspend them under a small float around submerged trees, docks, and rock piles.
The Willamette River around Junction City supports smallmouth bass, northern pikeminnow, and summer trout. Smallmouth concentrate on rocky banks, mid-river ledges, and current breaks near gravel bars. A pragmatic approach is to cover water quickly with 1/8β1/4 oz tube jigs, ned rigs, and small crankbaits in natural colors, then slow down when you locate fish. For carp and pikeminnow in the slower side channels and backwaters, simple bottom rigs with corn, dough baits, or nightcrawlers on medium spinning gear produce steady action, especially in mid to late summer.
Fall fishing around Junction City brings cooling water and renewed activity in both rivers and reservoirs. Largemouth and panfish at Fern Ridge slide slightly deeper but remain catchable along remaining green weeds and any hard cover. This is a prime time for reaction baitsβlipless crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and squarebills burned over flats and along tapering points. On the Willamette and Long Tom, chinook and coho salmon runs move through; target travel lanes in deeper runs with spinners, wobbling plugs, or cured roe fished close to the bottom, adjusting weight as flows change.
Winter tends to be quieter for warmwater species, but dedicated anglers still find action on trout and steelhead in the Willamette system. Focus on the clearest water available after rain events, and fish slowly: drift small presentations close to the bottom, or swing modest-sized spoons and spinners through steelhead holding lies. Throughout the year, success around Junction City comes from reading current breaks, adjusting lure size and weight to changing flows, and being mobile enough to hop between the Willamette, Long Tom, and nearby lakes as conditions shift.
