Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 15:21 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

Next New Moon in ~13 days on 14th July
Full Moon is generally a productive time for fishing - especially night fishing. Bright nights mean that many predators feed more actively during the night. During full moon the gravitational pull is in line with the gravitational pull of the sun, affecting all wildlife and increasing feeding behaviour.
  • Distance to earth:
    401,059 km
    Proximity:
    10.9 %
We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Lapeer

Lapeer, Michigan offers a diverse mix of lakes, ponds, and river stretches that fish well from ice-out through first ice. The most popular lake in the area is Lake Nepessing, a multi-species reservoir just southwest of town, but smaller nearby lakes and the Flint River system give anglers plenty of options when conditions change. Most waters are modest in size, making them ideal for small boats, kayaks, and shore fishing, and the fish respond well to straightforward, proven presentations.

Seasonally, spring in Lapeer is dominated by panfish and pre-spawn bass. As water temperatures climb into the 50s, focus on north-end bays, boat channels, and shallow flats with dark bottoms that warm first. Slip bobbers with small live minnows or waxworms produce consistent bluegill, perch, and crappie. For bass, work weightless soft-plastic stickbaits, compact jigs, and small spinnerbaits around emerging weeds, wood, and dock pilings. Early mornings and stable weather patterns usually provide the steadiest bite.

By summer, the pattern shifts to weedlines, drop-offs, and shade. On Lake Nepessing and similar lakes, key in on outside weed edges in 8–14 feet for largemouth bass, pike, and mixed panfish. Drag Texas-rigged worms, football jigs, or wobble-head jigs along the edge, and keep a medium-diving crankbait or swimbait ready for active fish. During bright, calm days, downsize line and baits—finesse worms, Ned rigs, and small jigs work well on pressured fish. Evenings bring fish shallower; topwater poppers and frogs across weed mats can draw explosive bass strikes.

The Flint River and Mill Creek offer current-oriented opportunities for smallmouth bass, walleye, trout-stocking segments, and rough fish like carp. Look for current seams, outside bends, and deeper holes below riffles. A simple approach is best: 1/8–1/4 oz jigheads tipped with soft-plastic grubs, paddletails, or half nightcrawlers catch almost anything. Cast upstream, let the jig tumble along bottom, and lift gently to avoid snags. For smallmouths, try inline spinners, small crankbaits, and tube jigs around rocky stretches and bridge abutments.

Fall brings some of the most consistent fishing in Lapeer-area waters. As weed growth thins and water cools, predators feed aggressively. Work reaction baits—crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and swimbaits—over points and along remaining green weeds for bass, pike, and the occasional walleye. Panfish school tighter along the first main-lake break; vertical presentations like ice-style jigs tipped with plastics or waxworms under slip bobbers excel now. This is also prime time to target bigger carp and drum with simple bottom rigs baited with corn or cut bait along soft-bottom flats adjacent to deeper water.

In winter, when safe ice forms, many smaller lakes and backwaters remain productive. Typical Lapeer ice tactics include

  • Micro-jigs tipped with waxworms or spikes for bluegill and perch
  • Tip-ups rigged with live minnows over weed edges and channels for northern pike and the occasional bass
  • Dead-stick rods with small spoons or teardrop jigs for crappie at dusk and after dark
Drilling multiple holes along depth transitions and moving frequently to stay over active schools is far more important than bait color.

Across the Lapeer area, success comes from matching tactics to the dominant habitat: weeds and docks on lakes, current breaks and rock on rivers, and depth changes all year. Keep your approach simple, stay mobile, and let water temperature and water clarity dictate lure size and speed—slower and subtler in cold, faster and more aggressive in warm conditions.
