Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 14:15 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Nacogdoches

Nacogdoches, Texas offers classic East Texas freshwater fishing with a focus on two standout reservoirs: Lake Nacogdoches and Lake Naconiche. Both lakes are known for quality largemouth bass, strong crappie populations, and excellent bream fishing, all set in timbered, gently rolling pine country that fishes well from bank, boat, or kayak.

Seasonal patterns around Nacogdoches are fairly predictable. In late winter and early spring, bass stage on secondary points, creek channels, and timber edges leading into spawning coves. Jigs, medium-diving crankbaits, and Carolina rigs in green pumpkin or watermelon work well in 8–15 feet. During the spawn, look for bass on shallow flats with scattered stumps and brush; weightless soft plastics, lizards, and creature baits are productive. Crappie slide up to brush piles and flooded timber in 6–12 feet this time of year and fall readily to small jigs and minnows.

As summer sets in, both Lake Nacogdoches and Lake Naconiche see bass move deeper to main-lake points, humps, and channel swings. Large worms, football jigs, and deep-diving crankbaits fished along bottom contours in 15–25 feet will consistently produce. Early and late in the day, topwaters like walking baits and poppers shine around shoreline grass, laydowns, and the dam face. Bluegill and redear sunfish peak in summer along gravelly banks and around docks; small pieces of worm or crickets under a float are reliable for kids and casual anglers.

Fall brings some of the most enjoyable Nacogdoches bass fishing. Cooling water gathers shad into the backs of coves and major creek arms, and bass follow. Look for surface activity and birds; squarebill crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and swimbaits are ideal for covering water. Crappie push back to mid-depth brush and bridge pilings, while channel catfish stay active on cut shad and stinkbaits along ledges and windblown banks.

Winter fishing centers on deeper structure and finding stable water. At Lake Nacogdoches, work slow-moving jigs and drop-shot rigs around submerged timber and creek bends. Electronics are valuable for locating bait and suspended fish off points. Crappie stack tightly to brush piles and timber in 18–30 feet; vertical presentations with small jigs or minnows just above the school are key.

Habitat and structure are dominated by standing timber, submerged brush, contour breaks, and limited vegetation. Effective spots include:

  • Timber lines along creek channels and ditches.
  • Points and secondary points on both main-lake and creek arms.
  • Man-made brush piles near drop-offs for crappie.
  • Riprap at dams and causeways for mixed species.

Common techniques in the Nacogdoches area emphasize versatility. Power fish with crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and swimbaits when shad are active, then slow down with Texas-rigged plastics, shaky heads, and jigs when the bite toughens. Use lighter line and natural colors in clear water, especially on Lake Naconiche, which often fishes like a clear, finesse-oriented reservoir. For catfish, simple slip-sinker rigs baited with cut shad, punch bait, or chicken liver fished on channel edges consistently produce.

Successful anglers in Nacogdoches pay close attention to water clarity, seasonal movements, and subtle structure changes. Combining electronics with disciplined casting angles around timber, points, and brush will help unlock both numbers and trophy potential across the region’s lakes and ponds.

If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes.
