The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 15:22 hours of daylight. 7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Racine

Racine, Wisconsin offers big-water Lake Michigan fishing with the accessibility of a small harbor town. The combination of Racine Harbor, the Root River, and nearby nearshore structure produces consistent action for salmon, trout, and a mix of warmwater species. Anglers can fish from boats, piers, breakwalls, and riverbanks, making Racine a versatile destination for both seasoned trollers and casual shoreline fishermen.

Spring fishing in Racine kicks off as Lake Michigan begins to warm and baitfish move in tight. Coho salmon and brown trout are prime targets, with trollers running planer boards and downriggers just outside the harbor gaps and along contour lines north and south of Racine. Thin trolling spoons, small dodger-fly combos, and stickbaits in orange, chartreuse, and UV patterns are reliable. Shore anglers do well casting spoons and crankbaits from the piers and breakwalls when water temperatures are in the 40s and low 50s, especially on overcast days with a light chop.

Summer brings stable trolling patterns and mixed-bag action. Chinook salmon, lake trout, steelhead, and coho spread across deeper water; most Racine captains focus on 80–240 feet of water depending on temperature breaks. Run a spread that covers the column: downriggers near bait marks, wire or copper lines out the sides, and leadcore or weighted steel for suspended fish. Glow spoons at first light, followed by flasher-fly and meat rigs as the sun climbs, produce consistently. Inside the harbor and along the lakefront, anglers can also find smallmouth bass, perch, and panfish by targeting riprap, docks, and weed edges with live minnows, tube jigs, and slip-float rigs.

Fall is when Racine becomes a destination for shore-bound salmon and trout anglers. Chinook and coho stage off the harbor and then push into the Root River, followed by brown trout and steelhead. Casting medium-heavy spinning gear with spoons, spinners, and crankbaits at the harbor mouth and river mouth early and late in the day is effective. In the river itself, anglers focus on deeper pools, current seams, and gravel runs; drift fishing spawn sacs, beads, and hair jigs under floats is the dominant approach. Cover water methodically, making repeated drifts through each prime lane before moving.

Winter fishing in Racine centers on harbor and river opportunities. When conditions allow, shoreline anglers work the warmest available water for brown trout and steelhead using slow-rolled marabou jigs, spawn sacs, and live minnows. Ice conditions on the main lake are often unreliable, so many anglers stay mobile and focus on open-water pockets, harbor corners, and slower Root River stretches where fish concentrate in slightly deeper, softer water.

Across seasons, success in Racine comes down to tracking water temperature, clarity, and wind direction. East and northeast winds can cool nearshore water and push bait and salmon closer to the harbor, while prolonged warm, clear periods may push fish deeper and call for subtler presentations and longer leaders. Use electronics to find bait and temperature breaks offshore, and pay attention to bird activity and surface slicks near the harbor. Whether you’re trolling at dawn or drifting the Root River at midday, staying flexible with depth, speed, and lure color is the key to consistent fishing in Racine.

If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes.
