Wow. what sort of tackle do you use to land something like that?

Short strong rod. Big conventional reel with hundred lb test. Steel leader, large hook with a live jack or fresh tuna attached. They go for the bottom and are tough to reel up.

do they fight a lot or is it more like pulling up a heavy weight.

They pull hard towards the bottom and try to get a spot to twist and break the line. Once off the bottom, they do continue to fight in a lot of cases, sometimes not so much. This one fought all the way once we got him off the bottom.

Superb catch. If fishing from shore over here, once hooked, they try to flee into some rocks, where they normally dwell, making it difficult for the angler to pull them in smoothly, and very often the line snaps from scraping on the rough edges, BUT a very luxurious and delicious fish. Congrats.
