Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

October Fishing Report
Cooling October water on the St. Lawrence near La Pocatière has fish feeding ahead of winter. Expect active northern pike on weed edges and current seams; flashy spoons and suspending jerkbaits draw strikes. Walleye stack along rocky breaks and channel drops—vertical jigs tipped with minnows work when current picks up. Schools of yellow perch hold over soft-bottom flats; small jigs or drop-shots with worms produce steady action. Occasional smallmouth bass roam wind-blown points; finesse plastics or blade baits excel.
Best windows are dawn and late afternoon, especially around a moving tide. After a cold front, slow down and probe 10–20 ft transitions. On mild, overcast days, fish push shallower. Look for birds and bait flickering along breaks between the marina outflows, rocky points, and adjacent bays.
Water clarity can swing with wind; a northwest breeze often brings cleaner edges. Use darker, natural patterns in clear water and chartreuse or silver when it muddies. Mind the strong current and dress for chilly, changeable weather.
Top tip: Pair a 3/8 oz jig with a live or scented minnow and “hover” it just off bottom on the upstream side of a break—let the current work the bait while you hold steady for walleye and perch.
