Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 13:55 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

For fishing, stronger tides are often favourable as they cause stronger currents and more motion on the sea bed. The above tidal coefficients give us an indication of how strong the tides are compared to their average. A value over 90 indicates very strong tides, known as spring tides. A low value indicates weak tides, known as neap tides. The tidal coefficient can range from 20 to 120 with a mean value of 70. A higher number usually indicates better fishing.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Bradenton

Bradenton, Florida sits between Sarasota Bay, the Manatee River, and the Gulf of Mexico, giving anglers fast access to productive inshore flats, mangrove shorelines, and nearshore Gulf reefs. The area is best known for its snook, redfish, and trout fishery, but seasonal runs of tarpon, kingfish, and spanish mackerel turn Bradenton into a serious Gulf Coast hotspot.

Seasonal patterns drive how and where you fish. Late winter into early spring, focus on sheepshead, mangrove snapper, and black drum around rock piles, docks, and bridge pilings in the Manatee River and around Anna Maria Island. As water warms in March–May, snook slide out of the rivers and creeks to stage along mangrove points, troughs near the beaches, and bay-side flats, while spotted seatrout feed heavily on grass flats 3–6 feet deep. Summer brings the famed Bradenton tarpon run along the beaches and near Bean Point, with rolling fish at first light and late afternoon. In the heat, snook stack in passes and around docks with strong current. Fall is prime for redfish schools on the shallow flats and bars, with roaming pods pushing wakes in skinny water. Winter pushes trout to deeper potholes and channels while nearshore reefs hold grouper, snapper, and mackerel on stable weather windows.

Key habitats around Bradenton include the expansive grass flats of Sarasota Bay, the mangrove-lined edges of Palma Sola Bay and Terra Ceia, and the deeper channels of the Manatee River. Look for healthy turtle grass mixed with sand patches for trout and redfish. Oyster bars, mangrove points, and creek mouths are classic snook and redfish ambush zonesβ€”especially on moving tides. Nearshore, artificial reefs and hard bottom in 20–60 feet off Anna Maria Island concentrate grouper, snapper, kingfish, and cobia.

Common techniques are straightforward but reward fine-tuning. For inshore flats, a 7'–7'6" medium light spinning setup with 10–15 lb braid and a 20–30 lb fluorocarbon leader covers most situations. Cast soft plastic jerkbaits, paddle tails, or shrimp imitations on 1/8–1/4 oz jig heads across grass edges and potholes. Topwater plugs produce explosive trout, snook, and redfish strikes at daybreak over calm flats. Around mangroves and docks, free-line live shrimp, pinfish, or pilchards on a 2/0–3/0 circle or J hook, pitching tight to shade lines and pilings.

For tarpon off Bradenton, step up to 30–50 lb class spinning or conventional tackle with 50–65 lb braid and 60–80 lb fluorocarbon leader. Drift or slow-troll live crabs, threadfin herring, or large pinfish along the beaches and in the passes, watching for rolling or daisy-chaining fish. Keep boat noise low and make long casts slightly ahead of the direction they’re traveling.

Nearshore tactics focus on structure. Use bottom rigs or knocker rigs with cut bait, squid, or live pinfish over reefs and ledges for grouper and snapper. When bait schools and birds are active, swap to free-lined live baits or spoons for king mackerel and spanish mackerel. Keep a heavier spinning rod rigged with a bucktail jig or large live bait for cobia that pop up near the boat or hover over buoys and markers.

Shore and pier anglers in Bradenton do well working bridges, seawalls, and public piers with live shrimp under popping corks, scented soft plastics, and small spoons. Time trips around strong tide changes, prioritize current edges, and adjust leader strength to match the structure and target species. With careful attention to tides, water clarity, and bait presence, Bradenton delivers consistent action across every season.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes. We found 15 beaches and bays in this area.
