Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Stuart
Stuart, Florida sits at the crossroads of the Atlantic Ocean, St. Lucie Inlet, and the Indian River Lagoon, creating prime fishing conditions year-round. The combination of deep bluewater just offshore, current-swept inlets, and extensive backwater flats gives anglers a shot at everything from sailfish and mahi to snook, tarpon, and redfish in a single trip.
Seasonal patterns are crucial in Stuart. Winter brings peak sailfish action along the offshore ledges in 100–250 feet of water, especially when strong north winds push bait south. Kite fishing and trolling ballyhoo shine this time of year. Spring sees more mixed offshore bags with mahi, blackfin tuna, king mackerel, and cobia on the reefs and along color changes. Summer offers early-morning and nighttime inshore bites for snook and tarpon around bridges and the St. Lucie Inlet, while offshore anglers target mahi and bottom fish on the reefs. Fall is transition time, with mullet runs igniting explosive inshore action from snook, tarpon, jacks, and sharks along the beaches and inlet.
Habitat types range from deep offshore structure to skinny flats. Offshore, anglers focus on ledges, wrecks, and live bottom in 80–300 feet for sailfish, mahi, snapper, and grouper. The St. Lucie Inlet and nearby sandbars are prime for snook, tarpon, and pompano, especially at tide changes with clean green water pushing in. The Indian River Lagoon and St. Lucie River hold seagrass beds, mangrove shorelines, and oyster bars where redfish, trout, and sheepshead feed.
Common techniques offshore include slow-trolling or bump-trolling live baits like threadfin, sardines, and goggle-eyes for sailfish and kings, and trolling rigged ballyhoo for mahi and wahoo. For bottom fishing, anglers drop chicken rigs or knocker rigs with cut or live bait for snapper and grouper on reefs and wrecks. Inshore, the go-to approach for snook and tarpon is free-lining live mullet, pilchards, or croakers around bridge pilings, dock lights, and jetty rocks, especially at dawn, dusk, and at night.
Artificial lures play a big role around Stuart’s inshore waters. Topwater plugs and walk-the-dog baits excel at first light over grass flats for trout and redfish. Soft plastic jerkbaits and paddle tails on 1/8–1/4 oz jig heads produce around mangroves and oyster bars on moving water. For sight-fishing along the beaches in clear conditions, small jigs and sand flea imitations can be deadly on pompano, while spoons and swimbaits work for Spanish mackerel and bluefish.
Tactical tips for Stuart focus on timing, tides, and water clarity. Inshore, prioritize moving water—fish the first couple hours of incoming or outgoing tide around structure. When the water is clear, downsize leader to 20–30 lb fluorocarbon for more bites from pressured snook and trout; bump up to 40–60 lb around bridges and jetties to handle abrasion. Match your bait to the hatch by watching what baitfish are present—mullet, pilchards, or glass minnows—and choose similar-size lures or live baits.
Offshore, watch sea surface temperature and weed lines; mahi often stack along tight temperature breaks and well-formed weed edges. Use a spread of skirted ballyhoo and small lures staggered at different distances, and always keep a pitch rod rigged with a live bait or chunk for fish that appear close to the boat. Between the offshore grounds, inlet, and expansive estuary, Stuart offers a diverse, high-percentage fishery for anglers who pay attention to season, tides, and bait movement.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes. We found 3 beaches and bays in this area.

Harbours and Marinas can often times be productive fishing spots for land based fishing as their sheltered environment attracts a wide variety of bait fish. Similar to river mouths, harbour entrances are also great places to fish as lots of fish will move in and out with the rising and falling tides. There are 8 main harbours in this area.
