Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Hampton
Hampton, New Hampshire sits in a prime stretch of the Gulf of Maine coastline where tidal rivers, estuaries and open ocean all collide. That mix creates diverse fishing options, from schoolie striped bass in the Hampton River to haddock and groundfish offshore. Access is straightforward: the Hampton Harbor area offers public ramps and charter docks, while surf anglers can work long stretches of sand at Hampton Beach and south toward Seabrook.
Seasonal patterns drive most of the fishing here. Striped bass typically arrive in May, first as smaller schoolies pushing into the Hampton River, Blackwater River and nearby marshes to chase early bait. By June and July, larger bass shadow mackerel, herring and sand eels along the beachfront and out around rock piles and ledges. Summer brings peak striped bass and bluefish action, with nighttime tides around new and full moons often best from the surf and jetties. In late September and October, bass push bait tight to the beach and river mouths again, giving shore anglers a strong fall run before fish slide south.
For bottom fishing, winter flounder bite best in late spring and early summer in the sheltered backwaters and channel edges of Hampton Harbor. Soft mud and sand bottom near channel turns, docks and mooring fields can produce steady action on incoming and high tides. Farther offshore, haddock, pollock, redfish and other groundfish are targeted from late spring through fall on deep ledges and humps reached by private boats and charter fleets operating out of Hampton Harbor.
Key habitats around Hampton include the Hampton and Seabrook jetties, the bar at the mouth of the Hampton River, beachfront troughs, and scattered rock patches just off the sand. Inside the river, sod banks, marsh drains and current seams hold schoolie bass during faster tides. A good strategy is to fish moving water: incoming tide over the bar and along the jetties, and outgoing tide along marsh edges where bait is flushed.
Effective techniques are simple but need to be matched to conditions. For striped bass from shore, 8–9 ft surf rods with 20–30 lb braided line handle both jigs and bait. Cast 3/4–2 oz bucktail jigs, soft plastics on jig heads, or metal spoons across current seams and sweep them along the bottom. At night, large soft plastics, swimming plugs and needlefish-style lures worked slowly in the wash are consistent producers. From boats, live or fresh chunked mackerel, pogies or clams drifted over bars and along channel edges are reliable when fish are picky.
For flounder, light spinning outfits with small hi-low rigs baited with seaworms, clam or squid strips fished directly on clean bottom are standard. Keep rigs still and let the scent work; small taps often signal a flounder mouthing the bait, so avoid striking too fast. Offshore, heavy conventional tackle with high-capacity reels is preferred for haddock and groundfish, using baited rigs or diamond jigs bounced over structure while drifting.
Tactically, pay attention to tides, wind and water clarity. East and northeast winds can dirty the surf and make fishing tough, while light southwest winds often coincide with clearer water and better lure visibility. Dawn, dusk and night usually outproduce mid-day for stripers, especially on bright, calm days. Use lighter leaders and smaller baits in clear water; step up to heavier leaders and larger profiles when the water is stained or when bluefish are mixed in. Cover water, adjust lure size and depth frequently, and key on bird activity and surface bait to stay on fish around Hampton.

If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes. Willoughby Beach - 9.07461595845km
Harbours and Marinas can often times be productive fishing spots for land based fishing as their sheltered environment attracts a wide variety of bait fish. Similar to river mouths, harbour entrances are also great places to fish as lots of fish will move in and out with the rising and falling tides. There are 12 main harbours in this area.
