Cheers Mark. Took about an hour to land and towed me about 1.5km. It didn't want to come the last 20m and I was glad to be using 50m of a 40lb braid topshot because it was going through the guides under pressure so often. Fortunately, the tax collectors left me alone that day. They've been hassling me for large chunks of this Summer. Hopefully with Winter here now I won't increase my tally of 28 sharks (up to a 2.5m GW that took 3hrs to leader) since Dec 1st.

Wow! man, a great catch! Are you wearing those special shoes for kayaking?

Ta dazzling79, they are just neoprene socks. More to keep th sun off the top of my feet which are prone to sunburn. I got sick of putting sunblock on my feet and toes every few hours. But now that Winter is here, the socks/booties help stop my toes from getting frostbite and dropping off. :-)

Yes! I need them because of sunburn! I use my normal socks when I am on the kayak. They get soggy wet from the launching moment to the end but I prefer to wear wet socks on rather than getting sunburn or sandfly bites. I was thinking to get a pair of aquashoes for that. I did't know if there are something like that you have.

Bloody monsterπππ yep I'm kayak fishing with my spearfishing suit, can be a bit cold here on Haast, and there is sudden crazy waves that flip your yak in a blink... so I'm ready for swimming πββοΈ beforehand π

Dazzling79, good idea. These were a gift from my neighbour, who tried valiantly to catch his first kingi before heading back to The Netherlands but seemed to catch everything but a kingi while he was here. They are sold on Amazon but there are cheaper NZ-sourced alternatives. The aquashoes probably have a more robust sole, which would be great if walking on rough/sharp terrain. Good luck. It's so much nicer to have warm feet when out there this Winter. Never bothered last Winter but will not go without them now.
Igor, thanks. That suit would be just the ticket for a dawn, Southerly, mid-Winter session.

Congratulations! Great catch! Did you weigh it?

Thanks skrat and Alex F. Didn't weight it but I'd guess about 17/18kgs. Still searching for the elusive >20kg kingi. Noticed one this Summer but couldn't entice it to strike.
