Hey mate, i troll for kahawai and when I get a hit I lower the jig down to the bottom to get the big snappers. Best to have a bendy rod

Cheers for that info. They sure like sitting under the kahawai. Without any lures, I had two small kahawai livies swallowed by big kahawai one day as I was trying to get the livies under the kahawai schools. After those two and with my last livie, I paddled away a bit, put on a solid sinker to get the livie down fast, and then paddled back, hoping to find a big snapper underneath. the livie got under them fine, but was swallowed by a bronzie and it was game over in about 20 seconds. Next time perhaps.
