Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Easton
Fishing in Easton, PA centers on the confluence of the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers, creating a diverse fishery with strong current, deep pools, rocky runs, and slower backwaters. Anglers can find year-round action for smallmouth bass, walleye, catfish, shad, trout, and more within minutes of downtown. Shoreline access, bridges, boat launches, and nearby creeks give bank and boat anglers lots of options.
Seasonal patterns drive most fishing success around Easton. Early spring focuses on pre-spawn walleye and smallmouth bass staging in deeper holes and current breaks. Jigs tipped with soft plastics, hair jigs, and live minnows bounced slowly along bottom are consistent producers. As water temps rise into late April and May, American shad and hickory shad push up the Delaware, concentrating below current seams, dams, and constrictions. Small spoons, flutter jigs, and brightly colored shad darts on light spinning tackle excel during the run.
By summer, the Easton stretch becomes classic smallmouth bass water. Look for rocky points, mid-river boulders, current edges, and the heads and tails of pools. Tube jigs, 3–4 inch swimbaits, Ned rigs, and topwater walkers or poppers are staple lures. Early morning and evening are prime, especially during low, clear water. Walleye slide deeper into runs and channels; target them at dawn, dusk, and after dark with crankbaits, jig-and-minnow combos, and soft-plastic paddletails retrieved just off bottom.
Fall brings another strong window. Cooling water pushes smallmouth to feed heavily on baitfish; crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and jerkbaits fished around rocky structure can produce some of the heaviest fish of the year. Walleye activity spikes as well, with jigging in deeper slots and along drop-offs paying off. Catfish remain active from late spring through fall in the Delaware’s deeper bends and slower holes below Easton. Cut bait, chicken liver, and live bait fished on simple slip-sinker rigs are reliable options for channel and flathead catfish.
Several habitat types shape tactics. In the main Delaware, focus on current seams where fast and slow water meet, eddies behind boulders and bridge pilings, and ledge rock that creates breaks in flow. Use heavier jig heads and sinkers in strong current to maintain contact with bottom. The Lehigh River offers a slightly smaller, faster feel with similar rocky structure; lighter tackle and more precise casting help place lures in tight current windows. Nearby tributary creeks and stocked stretches offer trout opportunities, especially in spring and cooler months; small spinners, inline spoons, and 1/16–1/8 oz jigs with natural-colored plastics work well in the clear water.
For tactical tips, prioritize water clarity and flow. After heavy rains, fish slower edges and flooded shoreline cover with darker, bulkier baits. In low, clear conditions use lighter line, natural colors, and long casts, especially for smallmouth and trout. A versatile Easton setup is a 6’6”–7’ medium spinning rod with 8–10 lb braid and a 6–8 lb fluorocarbon leader, capable of throwing jigs, plastics, and small hard baits. For catfish and heavier current, step up to a medium-heavy rod with 15–20 lb mono or braid. By matching gear and presentations to the Delaware and Lehigh’s changing conditions, anglers around Easton can find consistent, multi-species action throughout the year.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes.
