Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Longueuil
Longueuil fishing is defined by the St. Lawrence River, with shoreline access, marinas and islands creating prime structure for multiple game fish. The main river channel, shallower shoreline flats and back bays around ÃŽle Charron, Parc Marie-Victorin and the waterfront promenade all give anglers realistic chances at smallmouth bass, walleye, pike and abundant panfish without long drives.
Seasonal patterns are driven by current and water temperature. In spring, as ice leaves the St. Lawrence, fish concentrate near warm, shallow areas and river mouths. Pike slide into flooded vegetation and marsh edges, where casting spoons, spinnerbaits and suspended jerkbaits along emergent reeds can be very effective. Smallmouth and walleye stage on rocky points and the first drops off shore, responding well to jigs tipped with soft plastics or minnows worked slowly along bottom in the moderate current.
By early summer, bass and panfish settle into classic river structure. Smallmouth hold on rock piles, bridge pilings and current seams off Longueuil’s main shoreline. Tubes, ned rigs and small crankbaits bounced along the upstream edge of structure often draw reaction strikes. Largemouth, along with bluegill, pumpkinseed and black crappie, prefer calmer marinas, boat basins and weedy pockets behind breakwalls, where lightweight Texas-rigged worms, small jigs and slip floats with worms or minnows shine.
Mid-summer fishing in Longueuil rewards anglers who pay attention to current breaks and shade. On bright days, focus on the deeper edges of shoals and the downstream sides of islands where the current softens. Dropshot rigs with finesse plastics and vertical jigging with 3/8–1/2 oz jigs are productive for walleye and drum in these zones. Early morning and evening, shallow rocky shorelines and riprap near parks can explode with smallmouth chasing baitfish; casting topwaters, small walking baits or poppers parallel to shore can produce aggressive strikes.
Fall is one of the best periods on the St. Lawrence near Longueuil. Cooling water pulls bait and predators onto steep breaks and mid-river humps. Heavier jigs, blade baits and lipless crankbaits hopped along bottom can trigger big walleye and smallmouth. Northern pike and the occasional muskie patrol the edges of dying weedbeds and rocky points; large spinnerbaits, swimbaits and jerkbaits fished with deliberate pauses are key. Carp and catfish remain active along soft-bottom flats, where simple hair rigs with corn or bottom rigs with cut bait work well.
Longueuil offers a mix of shore and boat fishing. From shore, target obvious structure: riprap banks, piers, docks and the ends of breakwalls where current wraps around. Casting slightly upstream and letting your lure swing naturally with the flow greatly improves presentations. From a boat or kayak, use electronics to locate depth changes, isolated boulders and submerged weedlines off the main channel. Position just outside the strongest current and present baits into the seam, allowing them to drift through the strike zone.
Practical tackle for the area includes a medium spinning outfit with 10–15 lb braid and a fluorocarbon leader for bass and walleye, plus a heavier rod with 30–50 lb braid and a steel or thick fluorocarbon leader for pike and muskie. Carry a small selection of jigs, soft plastics, crankbaits, spinnerbaits and terminal tackle to adapt to the St. Lawrence’s changing conditions. By reading current, targeting key structure and timing trips to low-light feeding windows, anglers in Longueuil can consistently connect with quality fish in a highly accessible urban setting.

Beaches and Bays are ideal places for land-based fishing. If the beach is shallow and the water is clear then twilight times are usually the best times, especially when they coincide with a major or minor fishing time. Often the points on either side of a beach are the best spots. Or if the beach is large then look for irregularities in the breaking waves, indicating sandbanks and holes.
