Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Enniskillen
Enniskillen fishing revolves around the vast, interconnected waters of Upper and Lower Lough Erne, where classic Irish coarse fishing meets outstanding pike and perch sport. The town itself sits on an island between the two loughs, placing visiting anglers within minutes of prime shore pegs, sheltered bays and open-water drifts. The key to consistent results is understanding how seasonal movements, depths and flow shape fish location across this sprawling system.
Spring in Enniskillen sees water temperatures rise and fish push tight to shoreline cover and shallower bays. Roach, bream and hybrids gather along gently shelving shores, particularly where wind drives food onto gravel and silty margins. Light feeder and float tactics excel: use groundbait laced with chopped worm and dead maggot to create a bed, then fish small hooks and fine hooklengths for steady bites. Spring is also prime time to intercept pike in warmer, weedy inlets; medium deadbaits or slow-sinking soft plastics worked just above emerging weedbeds are deadly.
Through summer, fish spread out across the loughs and the most productive Enniskillen coarse fishing often comes from deeper, cooler water accessed by boat or from known deep-bank stands. Early and late in the day, roach and hybrids move inshore, making waggler and pole tactics effective over pre-baited areas. During bright hours, step up to cage feeders and longer hooklengths to reach fish holding off the main feed. On hot, calm days, perch and pike patrol drop-offs and submerged humps; drifting with small jigs, creature baits and shads, or trolling slim plugs along contours, helps you cover water efficiently.
Autumn is arguably the peak period for predator fishing around Enniskillen. As baitfish shoal tightly on the lough’s breaks and mid-lake features, pike and big perch cluster around them. Use sonar, if available, to locate bait balls and then work large soft lures, spinnerbaits or suspended deadbaits at the same depth. Coarse anglers can enjoy some of the heaviest nets of the year by targeting pre-winter bream and hybrids on deeper shelves; heavier groundbaiting with a mix of brown crumb, fishmeal and corn draws quality fish, while stepped-up gear helps control powerful hybrids in flow.
Winter fishing requires a more methodical approach. Fish shoal tightly into stable-depth areas such as channels, old riverbeds and sheltered basins. Simple, small-feeder rigs with minimal but regular top-ups keep cold-water roach and skimmers feeding. Pike respond well to static deadbaits fished near the bottom on subtle, low-resistance rigs. Focus on slightly coloured water and areas where any remaining bird life or sparse weed suggests lingering baitfish.
Habitat variety is one of Enniskillen’s strengths. You’ll find slow-moving river sections, rocky points, reedy bays, long shelves and extensive open water. On new venues, start by targeting obvious structure: reed lines, islands, bridges, marinas and headlands, then refine your approach based on bites. In coloured water, boost attraction with brightly coloured hookbaits or lures with strong vibration. In clear conditions, scale down, lengthen hooklengths, and opt for natural bait colours. Whether feeder fishing for big bream, flicking soft plastics for perch, or deadbaiting for Erne pike, a mobile, exploratory mindset pays off across Enniskillen’s rich and varied waters.
