The creek offers year-round trout fishing with easy access, while larger stillwaters within a short drive provide warmwater options for bass, walleye, and panfish.

Seasonal patterns on Clear Creek are driven by snowmelt. From March through early May, look for rising water and active browns and rainbows in slower edge water. Once runoff peaks in late May–June, the creek can run high and off-color; concentrate on soft pockets along the bank, behind boulders, and in side channels. July through September is prime time: stable flows, consistent hatches, and aggressive fish willing to eat dries, nymphs, and small streamers. Downstream toward Wheat Ridge, the creek widens and slows, mixing trout with warmwater species like smallmouth bass and carp in the lower reaches. Nearby reservoirs such as Standley Lake, Chatfield Reservoir, and small municipal ponds offer deeper water, riprap edges, submerged structure, and weedlines that attract bass, walleye, and panfish.

Techniques on Clear Creek are dictated by fast, shallow flows. Nymphing is the most consistent approach: use a two-fly rig with a small attractor nymph (e.g., Prince, Hare’s Ear, Pats Rubber Legs) and a tiny midge or mayfly nymph (size 18–22) below. Keep weight minimal so flies tick bottom without hanging up constantly. Short, controlled drifts with frequent repositioning out-fish long casts here. Dry-dropper rigs excel in summer—pair a buoyant dry (Parachute Adams, Stimulator, Chubby Chernobyl) with a small beadhead about 18–24 inches below, and work every seam, pocket, and transition in depth. On overcast days or at first/last light, small streamers (Woolly Bugger, Thin Mint, Sculpzilla in olive or black) stripped through deeper runs can pull bigger browns from cover.

Spin anglers do well with small, flashy offerings. Inline spinners in silver or gold, 1/16–1/8 oz, and tiny spoons work best in the faster canyon stretches; cast upstream or quartering upstream and retrieve just fast enough to keep off the rocks.
