Current Fishing Weather
Wind Speed and Direction
Wind Direction:
Wind Speed:
Wind Direction and Speed are one of the most important aspects for choosing a fishing spot. An offshore wind can help land-based anglers with longer casting distances, while an onshore wind will make kayak fishing safer. Often fish will also move to certain feeding areas depending on the wind direction. Check out the long term wind forecast at the charts below.
Fishing Barometer
Atmospheric Pressure:
Change since midnight:
Trend for next 6 hours:
Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Franklin
Fishing in Franklin, United States centers on a healthy mix of rivers, creeks, and man-made lakes that hold strong numbers of bass, catfish, crappie, and panfish, with seasonal trout opportunities. Anglers who pay attention to water temperature, flow, and clarity can stay on active fish almost every month of the year.
Seasonal patterns are predictable. In early spring, rising water temperatures push largemouth and smallmouth bass shallow. Look for fish staging on secondary points, riprap banks, and the first bluff transitions in from the main river. Jigs, compact crankbaits, and suspending jerkbaits are high-percentage choices. Crappie slide into coves, timber, and brush along creek arms; small tube jigs and 1/16–1/32 oz marabou or soft-plastic crappie jigs under fixed or slip floats excel.
By late spring into early summer, bass spawn in protected pockets, flooded brush, and along gravel banks. Weightless soft-plastic stickbaits, Texas-rigged creature baits, and finesse worms pitched to visible cover produce well. After the spawn, a strong early-morning and late-evening topwater bite develops over points, grass edges, and around shallow wood—try walking baits, buzzbaits, and poppers. White bass, hybrids, and stripers (where present) often school on main-lake points and channel bends; watch for surface activity and cast small spoons, tail-spinners, or swimbaits into the fray.
Summer fishing in Franklin shifts deeper during the day. On lakes and reservoirs, graph main-channel ledges, humps, and long tapering points in 12–25 feet for schools of bass, crappie, and catfish. Carolina rigs, deep-diving crankbaits, and drop-shot rigs are staples for bass. For crappie, vertical tight-lining with minnows or small jigs over brush piles and bridge pilings is reliable. Night fishing for channel and blue catfish with cut shad, chicken liver, or prepared baits on slip-sinker rigs can be excellent, especially on outside bends and along riprapped banks.
In rivers and larger creeks around Franklin, current seams are the key. Smallmouth, spots, and rock bass hold on the downstream side of boulders, in eddies behind fallen trees, and along gravel bars. Present 1/8–1/4 oz finesse jigs, small crankbaits, and 3–4 inch soft-plastic swimbaits or grubs upstream and let them swing naturally with the flow. For catfish, anchor just upstream of deep holes and wash baits back into the scour with just enough weight to hold bottom.
Fall triggers heavy feeding. Shad and other baitfish push into creeks and coves, pulling bass and gamefish shallow again. Cover water quickly with medium-diving crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and lipless cranks around bait schools. Crappie regroup on mid-depth brush and channel edges—keep your boat over 10–18 feet and work baits just above the fish. As water cools further, slow down with jigs and live bait.
Franklin’s small lakes, ponds, and park waters are ideal for bank anglers and families. Focus on corners with wind-blown banks, inflow areas, and any visible structure: laydowns, docks, and culverts. Simple rigs—bobber and worm for bluegill, small jig or inline spinner for multispecies action—consistently produce. With a modest selection of jigs, soft plastics, live bait, and a focus on structure and seasonal movement, anglers in Franklin can find dependable fishing all year.
