Sun and Moon Times

The sun will be at it's highest point at . Today we have 15:16 hours of daylight. For shallow water fishing the twilight periods are often the most productive fishing times, especially on days when a major or minor time will coincide with twilight. In low light conditions predators have better cover for their ambush and often hunt in shallow water.

We can compare the current moon distance to it's minimum and maximum distance from earth and express that as proximity. A high proximity means the moon is closer to earth. At 50% it would be at it's mean distance. A high proximity causes big tides, currents and has a direct effect on increased bite times. A proximity greater than 90% indicates a super moon.

7 Day Fishing Weather

The weather plays an important role in fishing. Wind strenght and direction often determine where you can fish and where fish might be holding. Although high pressure is usually good for fishing, steep pressure changes often trigger feeding frenzies and are great times for fishing. Of course temperature has also a strong effect on fishing and comfort on the water. So make sure to cross check the weather forecast with the solunar fishing times to determine the best times to go fishing. Fishing Overview Clinton

Fishing around Clinton centers on classic reservoirs and river systems with a mix of rocky banks, standing timber, brush, and shallow coves. These waters create ideal habitat for bass, crappie, catfish, walleye, and a variety of panfish. Understanding how fish relate to seasonal water temperature, water level changes, and primary forage will dramatically improve your consistency here.

Spring is the most productive period for many species around Clinton. As water warms into the 50s, prespawn largemouth bass stage on secondary points, channel swings, and the first breaks outside spawning coves. Work medium-diving crankbaits, suspending jerkbaits, and slow-rolled spinnerbaits along rock and wood. As temperatures push into the low 60s, bass move shallow to spawn on protected gravel pockets; target visible beds and shoreline cover with weightless soft-plastic stickbaits, creature baits, and compact jigs.

Crappie stack up along creek channels, bridge pilings, submerged brush, and riprap in late March through April. Vertical jig 1/16–1/8 oz marabou or tube jigs just above the fish you mark on electronics, or slow-troll multiple rods with small jigs and minnows. On warm, calm afternoons, crappie push right against the bank; pitch small floats and minnows or micro-jigs tight to laydowns and flooded bushes.

Through summer, the bite shifts deeper and earlier in the day. Bass position on main-lake points, offshore humps, and man-made structure like rock piles and roadbeds. Drag Carolina rigs, football jigs, and big worms along bottom transitions, especially where rock meets clay or sand. Night fishing can be excellent: slow-roll spinnerbaits or cast big dark-colored worms around lighted docks and shallow rocky banks.

Summer is prime for catfish on Clinton-area lakes and rivers. Channel catfish roam flats and channel edges; drift cut shad, chicken liver, or prepared baits across 8–20 feet of water, watching for subtle rod taps. For larger blue and flathead catfish, focus on deeper holes, outside bends, and submerged timber with fresh live or cut bait, using sturdy tackle and abrasion-resistant line.

In fall, cooling water pulls baitfish shallow again and fires up a strong reaction bite. Bass, white bass, and hybrids herd shad into creeks and windblown pockets. Watch for surface activity and working birds, then cast topwaters, lipless crankbaits, and small swimbaits through the commotion. On overcast or breezy days, concentrate on windward banks with squarebills and spinnerbaits deflecting off rock and wood.

Winter fishing can still be productive with a slower approach. Bass and walleye hold on deeper structure—main-lake points, ledges, and channel breaks. Present blade baits, jigging spoons, and finesse jigs with subtle hops near bottom, often directly under the boat. Crappie bunch tightly in deep timber or along steep drops; hold just above them with small jigs tipped with scent, moving as little as possible.

Throughout the year, key tactical edges include paying attention to wind direction, water clarity, and baitfish presence. Use electronics to locate structure and suspended schools rather than fishing blindly, and adjust lure size and color to match available forage. The Clinton area rewards a methodical approach—fish slowly, hit multiple depth zones, and let seasonal patterns guide where and how you present your baits.
