Atmospheric or Barometric Pressure affects fish activity. The best fishing can be had on a rising barometer and also the time just before it is falling. A steady barometer in the higher ranges can also mean good fishing. A falling or low barometer reading without much change is usually not a very good time for fishing.
UV Effect on Fishing
As a rule of thumb, the higher the UV index, the deeper fish will move. Shallow water fishing is best done at times with a low UV index. When the UV is high, stick to early mornings, late evenings and shaded areas. The effect is less noticable in deeper water, but often a higher UV index can produce good results in the deep.

Fishing Overview Monroe
Fishing in Monroe, Washington centers around the Skykomish River and a cluster of productive lakes within a short drive of town. This pocket of the Snohomish River basin gives anglers a shot at salmon, steelhead, trout, bass, and panfish, often on the same day if you’re willing to move between river and lake. Access is generally good, with a mix of public bank spots, launch ramps, and small craft opportunities for kayaks and jon boats.
Seasonal patterns on the Skykomish drive much of Monroe’s fishing calendar. Late spring into early summer brings snowmelt flows and the first serious shot at summer steelhead; focus on softer edges, inside seams, and tailouts as flows drop and clear. Salmon opportunities pick up through summer and early fall, with Chinook and coho keying on deeper traveling lanes, current breaks, and the heads of long runs. When pink salmon are in the system on odd-numbered years, they stack in slower, broad glides—excellent drift-boat and bank casting water.
Winter and early spring are steelhead time, with fish holding in classic bucket water: deeper slots below riffles, boulder fields, and the slow cushions along high, green banks.
